cross stitch
A recent comment on my daily craft blog led me to Folkology, a Hungarian cross-stitch site. I was stunned by the beauty of these designs and it led me to do a bit of cross-stitch research. I first came across cross-stitch, like many others I am sure, at school where we huddled over samplers writing our name or the alphabet and didn’t get further than that.

There are some great French cross stitch designs out there right now. I just blogged about one copmany that I recently discovered — Anagram Diffusion (http://www.anagram-dif.com/). Their monochrome designs are spectacular. Another one is Long Dog Samplers (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/longdog/).
I haven’t done cross-stitch in ages, but all these new (maybe only to me!) designes have me longing to pick up the needle and hoop again!

I enjoy cross stitching, but never ever follow a pattern. I like to make up my own designs. You can see one on my Blog ( she said quietly and somewhat abashed!).

i think i need to send you some of the cross stitch pieces my mum finished as a young girl in eastern europe. the stitches are so small you can barely see them.
some of the pieces she made as part of her dowry (yes back then you needed one) and other pieces were part of her national costume. although quite dated i dont plan on parting with any of them though.

Amazon.fr has a lot of not too pricey books with patterns, also monograms. Very interesting and beautiful, and my wishlist is growing.
Danish cross stitch patterns are very famous and traditional. If I recall correctly, books were published by Håndarbejdets Fremme, I did a lot of the traditional patterns years ago.
