card storage idea

I love cards and stationery, especially hand made letterpress and screen-printed ones. My ever-growing collection has been residing in a messy pile on my bookshelf. When I need one, the whole pile comes out, and I rummage around for an appropriate one. In a fit of reorganizing the other day, I set them free. Each one came out of it’s envelope or protective sleeve and went into 2 fabric bins. You occasionally see displays like this at card shops, and I love the feel of flipping through my collection as if I were at my favorite stationery store.

ETA: I got these great foldup fabric bins at a 100-yen store in Japan. I’ve also seen suitable canvas bins at Ikea and the Container Store, among other possibilities. Any pretty box would do.

The Pedantic One surfaces to say:

I think you mean stationEry unless you are discussing the fact your cards aren’t running around.

(Just remember E for Envelope in stationEry)

I’ll shut up now after saying great idea!

Great idea – have lost count of the number of times I’ve knocked my pile of packets of card blanks all over the floor while deciding which to use!

that is a great idea! i have seen those bin thingies at Dollarama stores all over here in Ontario (Canada). i personally use napkin holders to store my cards in, my favourite one is metal shaped like the outlines of a fork, knife, and spoon, and you can see the cards through it. (does that make any sense? i couldn’t think in words how to describe it!) :)

what a wonderful idea!!! i am an avid card collector as well… i’ve even kept all the cards given to me since i was a bitty kiddo… right now, some are in boxes while others are on a fan display of mine… and then i make my own but dont particularly display them… anyhow, a splendid idea! (not to mention, its a pleasure to see others who have the same passion for cards)

ooooh, i love japanese 100 yen stores. for those of you in new york, a similar “japanese outlet store” exists here in the u.s. it’s called samurai123 and there is a branch in the garment district (on 8th i believe). it’s not as good as the ones in japan, but you can get the idea. i’d love to hear of any others that folks know about…

anyway, love the bins you got there maitreya.
