whiplash - week 1 closed

Meet Me at the Maker Faire!

whipup

Week 1 of whiplash is now closed and judging has begun.
I encourage everyone to go through the links and check out everyones entries, they are fantastic and fun. The three top entries will be receiving a copy of the book ‘52 projects’, of course there are many great entries and I would love to feature your favourites. So please leave a comment with your favourite entry and the most popular will be the subject of a special feature post.

I would like to thank everyone who entered, for putting up with my terrible instructions and the beta version of the upload link tool plugin which is still undergoing testing, notifying us of the problems helps us to get it right (hopefully eventually).

I also want to thank Rob for website testing and fixing and trouble shooting, Jon for writing the plugin and hopefully continuing to add features and Jan for designing the whiplash buttons. The authors and judges for putting up with me and for posting great stories and helping out. The readers for being so supportive and reading whipup daily, and our sisters and brothers craft website portals for spreading the word, being enthusiastic and generally posting wee stories about whipup now and again. Also the authors, publishers and sponsors of the whiplash competition - thank you for your generosity and support. (if anyone would like to donate for round 2 whiplash please get in touch via email).

Thanks for organizing a fun competition and inviting us to play! My personal favourite has to be the entry from Vegas and Venice. FAB pants and a big laugh.

  2. elisabethaugusta Says:

Thanks for the fun! Among all the great entries eleleo’s handbag security guard is my top favourite.

  3. Jen Leheny Says:

I thought that the competition was extended until today and I assumed that meant the end of today ie. midnight. I can’t find anything to say what time it should end. I am really bummed. I don’t suppose I can slip this in late - it’s 10.30 on the 18th and it’s my birthday and I really wanted to get this into the competition. I hope you understand. here is my link just in case: http://www.jenleheny.com/archives/178

  4. Jessica Hood Says:

Thanks for this contest! What a fun thing to be involved in. As far as favorites it’s SO hard to narrow it down. But I really like Suz’s tweedle-eet pillow and Eleleo’s handbag security guard. But I love all the entries!

  5. Amanda Says:

Excellent, happy judging, I don’t think I’ll win but I was happy to give it a go.

  6. stephanie s Says:

thanks for all your work - this was very fun, and the best part was checking in and seeing what people had made and how they interpreted the challenge…you’re doing a fabulous job, as are all the people you have supporting this great site.

Thanks for putting together the competition, it was fun! My favorite entry was - no not my own - the everyday panties by vegas and venice. They made me laugh.

I like the undies too!!!!!!!! Very cute and I would like a pair!!

  10. marymo Says:

This has been fun, I hope to be able to take part in the upcoming contests too. I enjoyed the collage and the censored tee the most, they were all SO good though, I don’t envy the judges!
    Cheers!

How do I get to it? I’m not having success trying to figure out where the links are, and I’m guessing I’m not the only one. Thanks.

  12. Julie Says:

My favorite is a toss up between the brownie yarn and the bunk-bed circus curtain. Have fun judging!

  13. NancyS Says:

I love Yarn Botanika’s Peace Roses and her yarn. Unbelievable colors…..

  14. Tami Says:

Great turn-out for the first whiplash competition! My personal favorite was the knitted coffee cozy. I think that it perfectly embodies what “everyday creativity” means. Sort of a shaker philosophy really … making your everyday utilitarian objects a beautiful part of your life. Way to go .. can’t wait for the second go-round. Maybe I’ll have more time to join that one.

  15. Susan at artstream Says:

I liked them all, but the plush slippers and yes, the vegas panties were pretty hot!
great fun and can’t wait to see what you cook up next!

  16. steph Says:

As a mother of a “LONG SLEEVE SHIRTS, ONLY” kid, I enjoyed the
“LongerSleeves ” idea from BeesNest. Thumbs up!

  17. Lala Says:

I missed the deadline to upload - got caught up in work as usual :)
Great idea and great links. I can tell that so much hard work went into the contest! Kudos to the team behind the scenes.

  18. Sheep@TheWindow Says:

I thought al the entries were great, everyone had such interesting takes on the topic and I saved most of the links for later use.. Everyday creativity means these are going to be useful some day! :)

My favourites were the plush slippers (for their coolness), and the “write the damn book” doll (for originality)

  19. Emma Says:

I think my top favourites were the coffee cozy and the mice pegs for some beautiful creative solutions to everyday needs. And I loved the longer sleeves too - gotta get me some of them.

  20. Kelaine Says:

Thank you for putting on such a fun contest! I’m really looking forward to challenging myself to consistently enter each week, keeping it small (difficult) to make the deadlines and coming up with new ideas. I suspect that the contest will be growing bigger each week as it gains popularity and notoriety.

I have really enjoyed looking at all the entries and exploring everyone’s blogs! I’ve lost hours and hours of time!

I’m glad I’m not judging…. Lots of great creativity out there!

  21. shannon Says:

I think the quilted coasters may have been my favorite, although I am not sure… the write doll and the censored tees also really spoke to me….

  22. bettycrafter Says:

thanks for fueling creativity! this is a great outlet to make and create!

  23. Sandra Says:

Great contest, thanks for organizing this! SO hard to pick a favorite… but I especially liked:

    1. Indoor window::shimelle -
for seeing new possibilities for an everyday object

    2. Everyday Panties::vegasandvenice
for embellishing something we all use everyday- the common panty- and for making me laugh mine off :o)

  24. edgegallery Says:

The super plush slippers are my fave. But everything had a touch of something I liked…sigh…
