whiplash – week 3 – no fear

Week 3 theme is NO FEAR uploading is now open and will close midnight – as per the time on the top of the whiplash page of this blog on 1 May.
Week 3.
In this week there is one copy of three different books offered up as prizes
1. ‘Photoshop Elements Crafts Book‘ by Elizabeth Bulger (Donated by the author)
2. Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods and Karen Dinino (Donated by the authors)
Subtitled ‘The no-fear guide to creating Art Journals, creative manifestos and altered books.
3. Make your mark by Margaret Peot (Donated by Chronicle Books)
Subtitled ‘Explore your creativity and discover your inner artist’
To Enter:
- Read the weekly challenge theme – posted on Thursday
- Make something over the weekend – using your medium of choice but in the spirit of the theme
- Take a couple of good photos of your work – one close up photo, and one broader view photo and maybe a photo of it in use. Some hints to take good images – use natural light not flash, put your item near the window in filtered light not in harsh sunlight which create dark patches of shadow. Take a couple of images and make sure it is in focus. – You don’t need to be a good photographer but you do need to use images that show off your item to its best.
- Post your entry on your own blog – or to flickr, or to your friends site – it must be online somewhere with a stable link.
- Grab the code for one of the whiplash buttons on the whiplash page (kindly designed by Jan at poppy) and paste into your post with your whiplash entry
- Are you signed into whipup? if not login or sign up and get a password then login. – You will not be able to upload your link if you are not logged in.
- Once you are signed up and logged in to whipup – you can upload your link – you must have the permanent link to your post – to get to the permanent link of your post you may need to click on the date or the header or the #, or the permalink button and it should be in this format http://yourwebsitename.com/pagetitle/date/orsomething
- Where do you upload your link? – go to the whiplash page – see button on sidebar, and look at the sidebar of the whiplash page.
- You can only enter once per week.
- Entries will be judges by a panel of judges on three criteria – skill, humour and originality.

i liked the no pre-nup dress but it seems to have disappeared from her site…was it for real? my friends & i are all guessing no…..or her friend got really mad….

I agree that the no pre nup was pretty good though I was horrified by what the friend was going to think! I also liked the little crocheted (?) man.

I felt that the Period Kit was very useful and perfect to combat surliness. I also like the altered journal pages made from garbage as littering annoys me as well. I also thought Mean Red was adorable. I’m dieing to know what happened with the wedding dress on a purely spanish language soap/novella kind of level. I also loved the quilt with it’s under surly side given my issues with getting up in the morning…
Okay, I obviously suck at judging since I can’t seem to pick a fav. I also sort of sensed this was a hard topic for a lot of people. I guess creating/crafting/making art naturally realeases endorphins and that makers are happier people than most. With me being the lone, curmudgenly, exception to the rule as I frequently have to invoke the calmness of the dalai llama!

I feel like a total idiot b/c I can’t find where to look at the entries. Do I have to enter to look at anyone else’s? I guess I need to win “Whip Up for Dummies”. Can anyone enlighten me? Lara

TI think the clean/dirty sign is great. It’s a funny concept and useful at the same time. I think the excecution is simple and to the point. Very well done!

oh man… tough call. i do not envy those who have to make the final decision –

oh my – that wedding dress…. surely she deserves a new book (after probably losing an old friend)

I loved the scowler monkey – witty and seemed to come from the heart. Great use of materials too!

I liked all of the stuffed animals well enough, but felt that they didn’t convey “surliness.” Or for that matter, judging by how many there were, uniqueness. I liked the period kit, wedding dress and the broken plate mirror. Different ideas are what whiplash is about, right?

Another favorite was the period kit… but I loved exploring all of them!

Since I couldn’t remember names of entries last week for the reader’s choice, I want to post my two favs thus far. I love Wataame’s hot pink ninja girl (Shhhhhh!) and Regina’s No Fear clock rocks!
