The Whiplash competition has some great sponsors behind it.

Pixelgirl Shop – a place to give artists who make unique high-quality items a central hub to sell their creations;

Pixelgirl Presents
and PixelgirlShop.com are all about promoting high-quality work while educating people about the various facets of art and design. All of the commission that is made goes right back into paying for the hosting service and the time it takes to run a very large download site and specialty shop. The purpose of this store is not to compete monetarily with other online stores– it is simply to promote the cool artists and their items.

Pixelgirl shop sells indie artists work on consignment, simply email them with who you are and what you are interested in selling. Include photos of your work or a link to your images. If you have a website please include it in your email. “If your style jives with our style, it’s a match made in heaven!”

MAKE Magazine – bringing the do-it-yourself mindset to all the technology in your life;

MAKE Magazine have just finished the Maker Faire, a huge success, described as ‘from tech to textiles’ they had o over 24 different hands-on workshops, touching on everything from knitting to glass blowing, silkscreening, and more, the upcoming Maker Faire will feature a number of unique crafting activities. Some highlights of the faire included:
A special tech fashion show by Diana Eng (Bravo’s “Project Runway”) and Emily Albinski and The Swap-O-Rama-Rama: a huge clothing swap where you can modify old clothes to make “new” clothes at wildly fun DIY stations.

Now Make have a new project, CRAFT Magazine – From the makers of Make Magazine comes a new magazine devoted especially to crafts! Coming Fall 2006

Denyse Schmidt – Denyse and her quilts have appeared in hundreds of distinguished national magazines and newspapers, as well as some very cool books;

On her website Denyse say “I started making things when I was little, and never stopped. I studied graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design, and had more than a few different careers over the years. I finally patched together my many eclectic experiences when I created my business ten years ago.” You can spend time in Denyse’s studio if you sign up for a workshop through makeworkshop.com.

This year, Denyse Schmidt quilts celebrates a decade of making quilts. If you purchase a quilt in 2006, 10% of profits will be donated to two organizations close to Denyse’s heart: The National Marfan Foundation, and The Alzheimer’s Association.

and Helloindie – an email zine that enhances this community of independent artists by providing a platform for promoting their wares and increasing consumer awareness of alternative products and online shopping.

helloindie is an email zine that enhances this community of independent artists by providing a platform for promoting their wares and increasing consumer awareness of alternative products and online shopping. Think of it as an indie Lucky (with a smidge of Giant Robot) in digital form and packed with crafty goodness.
