[...] Sometimes I will eat lunch at my desk and poke around the few safe sites I can surf while at work. Today, I ended up on whipup.net and was specifically interested in this post. I noticed July’s contest after it was over - too bad. I had a bag I was working on at the time that would have fit in nicely with the theme. But now… the August contest is here and Woo! Something I can actually participate in! [...]

I can understand wanting to stay impartial. I guess for me, I just kind of squick at companies that do unethical things and try to put happy pro-crafter faces on it while their actions are totally the opposite of their public "goals", y'know?

For me, at least, I'd rather give my money to an equally-good resource that doesn't try to sue local crafting groups, in order to encourage the positive behaviours over the ethically-questionable.

I have reconsidered offering sew fast sew easy book as a prize - not wanting to endorse the controversy surrounding the trade marking issue. But in the interests of impartiality I will be reviewing the book - as one of whipups goals is to provide impartial commentary on what is happening in the craft world.

Yikes...is it a good idea to be supporting the whole Sew Fast, Sew Easy thing after the way they tried to hijack the "Stitch & Bitch" term from the local groups, and how nasty they've been to Debbie Stoller and the knitters?

I love this topic and all, but the ethics of that particular company just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
