I recently bought the new BHG Simply Creative Crochet 2006 and there is an article in it about this technique. This new to me but I'm attempting some of Ms. Ventura's free projects before I decide if it's something I want to do. I started today working on the pencil holder and so far so good. The only thing that I don't like is the yarns twist and keeping my tension TIGHT; other than that it seems to be a simple process.

Thomas will you be sharing you're techniques of graphing, I would love to be able to make my own patterns.

Apparently I have been creating tapestry crochet for quite a while. I have use this techique to create crochet versions of several pictures including baseball team logos, the MLB logo, and the University of Texas Longhorn. I have become obsessed, so It is nice to know that it has a name. I create the patterns by graphing them out on excel. It rocks!

I have had a lot of fun using her patterns from both Carol Ventura's books and patterns from her website. Being a Parental caregiver to my Mother doens't give me a lot of time for much, but doing these patterns have really helped the stress.

[...] I crocheted the cat hat in single crochet from black chenille with cream chenille accents. After reading the tapestry crochet post on whipup a few weeks ago, I’ve been wanting to try it, so I added a zig-zag border around the bottom, to match the ‘M’ markings on Maui’s forehead. I finished the bottom with reverse single crochet.: [...]

This is awesome, I really like the result and the wide range of things you can produce with this technique. I don't think I could do it, but the jewelry basket really deserves a try...
