whiplash - hat month - ideas

When I first started researching free online patterns for Hat Month, I was completely overwhelmed by how many online patterns there are out there. Then I started narrowing my search and going off on tangents, looking at gnome hats, cat hats, vintage hats, helmet hats … on and on they go. Here is a really brief selection of free online patterns and resources of hats that I thought looked interesting or fun or stylish or just liked for some other reason. You will probably notice that there is an overflowing abundance of knitted and crochet patterns but a woeful selection of sewn and felted patterns. Please please send in your free online pattern suggestions - I would love a good pattern for a sun hat. I also have an Amazon books selection on hats and related crafts, if you purchase books from this then whipup receives a small percentage - going towards website costs.

Wow, that’s a lot of ideas.
    If you go here
    http://www.garnstudio.com/lang/en/kategori_oversikt.php
and put ‘hat’ in the searchword box, you should find 92 free hat patterns. They are all for Garnstudio yarns, but with the gauges/tensnions listed.

Here’s a simple and FAST crocheted cap pattern:

    http://www.jpfun.com/patterns/14misc/addisonhat.shtml

I’ve made that several times for friends and for myself and it’s a hit. It’s not too warm and it makes a good “liner” hat under a bike helmet or raincoat.

(The picture doesn’t do it justice)

This is so brilliant - thank you for compiling this list. Will you be producing lniks for knitted and crocheted scarves - hope you don’t mind me asking
Thank you again - can’t wait to get started on these

the correct webpage for the radar mash hat is http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=27772.0;topicseen
I just had to go look… there aren’t too many links for sewn hats; maybe I can scare up a few more!

here’s a list of hat links - some are places to buy hats (and get ideas from), purchase patterns, and some hat info/trivia:

the very last link, to the Hat Society, is a huge list of links to all kinds of hat sites-

links to other type of projects may be forthcoming in the future

  9. Avivah Says:

Umm…why does it say the pirate hat pattern is “suitable for men”? I think it’s quite suitable for both genders.

  10. admin Says:

oh sure it is suitable for both - but not many are suitable for men - there are so many interesting womens patterns and I thought that it was great that there was a cool hat that was actually good for blokes too
