Primrose Design has been posting a “Stitch School” series of embroidery stitches. The most recent ones are herringbone stitch and feather stitch. (Links to the previous 9 are listed on her sidebar.) They are very clearly illustrated with photos of each step.

Thanks for the mention and links! I just posted my 12th lesson—cross stitch—and plan to continue until I run out of stitches. There are dozens (if not hundreds) of them so this might go on for a while :)
I have a pattern that calls for a “twisted sdtraight stitch.” I cannot find this stitch illustrated on any website on in my book of stitches. Can you help me with this?
