Thursday, December 14th, 2006At Knit’s End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much (Paperback)
by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee {aka the yarn harlot}
Published by Storey publishing and distributed in Australia through Capricorn Link.
This is an absolute gem of a book. Small enough to carry around and have instant inspiration whenever you need it.
Fans of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, aka the yarn harlot, will already have this book, but for those of you a little late on the uptake read this review and consider this book to put in the stocking of your knitting obsessed beloved this christmas.
Stephanie introduces the book by saying that it is ok for everyone to have their own experiences of this book and use it how they will, the same way that knitting is different for everyone. For some this book will be an inspirational pick-me-up and for others an amusing interlude.
While this book is full of quotes, it is not merely a book of quotes, stephanie has taken the quotes and digressed, told stories and expressed her insights about knitting and life. Some of the quotations in the book are knitting related, but not all, they deal with learning, beauty, lifes lessons and the gaining of wisdom.
Each page usually (but not always) begins with a thoughtful quote, then a short anecdote, memory or story of Stephanies and then ends with a promise or lesson learnt. This formula really works, I like it. I like how not all the anecdotes relate directly to quotes, but they all seem to be interconnected, Stephanie seems to be quite wise as well as witty and that is what makes this book so wonderful.
