whiplash

Just a couple more days left to upload your entries for the holidays whiplash. I will be announcing winners and featuring others during the second half of January.

… then I will be announcing the February Whiplash - any ideas for themes?

The one year anniversary of whipup is coming up and I have a great competition, which I will be announcing soon, to celebrate.

February 3 is Candlemas. Scandinavian farmers have taken weather readings on this day, since it is supposed to be exactly mid-winter. The coldest day. It usually isn’t, but it’s midway between solstice and equinox. Close enuff for comfort.

So, February for me? Winter. Bare branches against a huge red sunset, the bird table empty almost before you’re back in the house, and winter colors. Pale sky, grey light, black trees, slate-coloured sea.

What about collage? I’m inspired by the valentines over at While She Naps http://whileshenaps.typepad.com/whileshenaps/2007/01/collaged_valent.html but collage could be any medium any theme

I was just thinking that even though it’s gotten colder where I am, the crafters on the other side of the equator are probably dealing with heat!

So, my next thought was President’s Day is in February for us in the US, so how about a History theme? Either using historic techniques, or honoring history in some way? (I too, don’t care for the commercialized Valentine’s Day stuff…)

Tokens. Tokens of love, friendship, etc. Things you would give loved ones?

How about ‘Non-edible food’? I think that crafted food is just so cute. Everyone here is so creative and I would love to see what kind of “foods” they could sew, knit, sculpt, photograph…craft!
