I am seeing this wonderful designed knitted headband almost everywhere – its called caloremetry – I just had to mention it here, as it looks so very comfortable and stylish. (Lizzy knits has a beautiful rainbow one (see image). However there is some criticism of the pattern and design – such as it knits up too big – what do you think? Low country made one that had this problem – but I actually think looks fantastic.
What a great idea for the cover your head knit-along.
check out the crafter thread on the calorimetry and flickr has a few finished projects up too.
Kittycafe made a gorgeous blue version, and has excellent photos showing how it works.

I knitted one according to pattern and it came out HUGE, but I still wear it anyway. I think it should be used more as a guideline, ya know, just using the technique and tweaking the numbers so that it works with your yarn and head-size.
My best friend just made a few of these- the sugar and cream cotton yarn seemed to work best for her. She said anything else was too bulky for her.
I knit it once as the pattern said, and found it too big. I have since made three more, casting on only 112 stitches and then doing row 5 thirteen times (instead of 15) and row 7 fifteen times. At least I *think* that’s what I did. It fits great that way, but could probably even be reduced more because the ribbing stretches so much. But all in all it’s sooo easy and quick and cute!
I knitted this a few weeks ago and it is a little big, so thank you for these links as next time I’ll cast on less stitches. You can also fold it in half, as I’ve modelled here: http://chatiryworld.typepad.com/chatiryworld/2007/01/a_knitted_start.html
I love it, I can wear a ponytail and keep my ears warm!
I whipped one up for a Christmas present at the end of December, although I didn’t get a picture of it. It turned out very cute and not too big at all, and looked absolutely smashing on the person I gave it too.
This pattern gets two big thumbs up from me – I will make one for myself soon.
After reading this post and visiting all of the other versions, I couldn’t resist making one for myself. The first version had only 80 stitches, but ended up too small to fit around my head; the second version is perfect with 110 stitches, and only five repeats of the middle rows. Perfect. What a great way to keep my unruly pouf in check. Thanks for the inspiration!
I made one in last week and have been wearing it everyday since. I followed the instructions and it looks exactly like the picture — which never happens to me. I think it’s great!
