I think Sockapalooza sign-ups were only open for about two days because it filled up so fast (1000 participants). Just hang in there and do check the swaps and knit-alongs site posted above as they seem to be pretty on the ball. All the ATC groups like a swap, and there are a couple of independent sites promoting general international swapping, which Google may help with.
