I made my covered buttons-no problem-but have tried to figure out how to attach the covered elastic band to the button shank to no avail. I’ve tried to jam it through the shank-I’m trying to use the thick goody bands-and that only worked once. I’ve tried to pry the shank to make it less narrow and that didn’t work. And I tried to pry the shank out of the button back but it won’t securely go back in to the original hole and be bent back to secure it-help please! Thanks in advance, Toni

You could either sew it on or use non-shank buttons and attach the band by glueing a little circle of leather over the band and button - that’s how I do it.

This may be of some assistance, but it may also be the exact same project that you’re struggling with.

I thread a needle and triple knot the end, then pierce it through the hair elastic and pull it through the shank. Snip the thread off then loop the elastic back on itself to secure it. Works everytime. Hope this helps.
