This post brought to miind the work of a NYC lower east side street artist, Jim "mosaic man" Power. A blog, neithermorenorless.com originally brought his work to my attention. The posts regarding Power's, his life (with his dog Jesse Jane) on the LES, and his street mosaic work is interesting reading and viewing. I imagine that Power's work may fall within the realm of guerilla art (I have not yet read the book, so do not know the exact description), but if it does, then his work may be an example of the positive side of this type of art.

I am blessed to live in a village that enjoys found art, or guerrilla art and there is free space for mural and graffiti artists.. I just left a "hurt box" piece in town (I asked permission to attach it to the wall) and they LOVE it. I think like all art, street arts included, there is the good, the bad and the downright ugly. Leaving art, or fun projects like Knitta (they are fantastic) brings a great deal of pleasure to many folks.

well take care and I 'm off to have a look at the public embroidery :)
regards jafabrit

I hope you'll include Knitta PLEASE from Houston. With humor and social commentary (as well as a variety of worsteds) they have tagged all sorts of locations.

I'm not affiliated with them, I just like their work and envy their originality. *$%^, I wish I'd thought of that!!!

I am of two minds about graffiti. I enjoy some of the clever things I see on train cars, for example. However, in 1996 my husband and I stayed in Zurich, Switzerland. Almost every business and private home was covered with graffiti on the ground level. It was such a beautiful city otherwise. I found it very sad.
