book: 101 designer one skein wonders

101 Designer One-Skein Wonders: A world of possibilities inspired by just one skein by by Judith Durant published by Storey Publishing, LLC (October 16, 2007)

This is Judiths second book in the one skein wonders series, saves the lonely leftover skein of yarn from a life of living in the closet - this book is arranged by yarn weight so knitters have a broad ranges of possibilities for those orphan skeins.

The contributors to this volume come from all areas of the knitting and crocheting world. Some design for yarn companies, some are published in magazines some write books, some in yarn shops and some knit for family and friends.

Now that covers quite a broad collection of skills and tastes in items knitted and crocheted. Then comes the photographic index, - with luscious images each to be exclaimed over. There is also a listing for types of yarn - you just happened to have a spare skein of and which patterns are suitable to knit with it.

The patterns range from a very fine lacy knitted edge to a shawl, socks, adult vest, children’s cardigans, slippers, scarves etc ,etc. Far too many to list but all tempting on all levels of skills. There was one that particularly caught my eye - a cross-stitch scarf - I have never seen any thing knitted like it before. It actually looks like it is woven and being multi-coloured it is very effective. It is going on my to do list. I was very impressed with this book.

About the reviewer: Janette is a grandmother and keen knitter - she is has a long list of projects to get through before the coming winter for her five grandchildren - including hats, armwarmers and slippers.

I love this book - got it as a gift last year and the projects in it are fantastic. I love how they are sorted by yarn weight, perfect for when I need to think of a destashing project.
