I am going to try this, I am glad I found this site again, its so awesome
I actually like to shrink potato chip bags by sandwiching them between two pieces of wax paper and ironing them quickly with a really hot iron. I’ve never used an oven, but the iron makes them look like weird, bubbly skin.
I’ve never heard of shrinking a potato chip bag but it sounds so cool I had to go see what I could find; came across a tutorial on WikiHow at http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Potato-Chip-Bag-Bracelet. I’m thinking I might try this with my heat gun outside…
when I was 13/14 (5-6 years ago) I shrunk a chip bag in the microwave. It works super well! (It has to be the foil kind) however… when kept it for too long (like more than 30 seconds – a minute I think) it caught on fire! So exercise caution and try at your own risk ;P
Melting plastic = not such a good idea
I had lots of fun with Shrinky Dinks as a kid, but melting plastic releases toxic, hormone-disrupting chemicals, and I shudder to think of people exposing themselves to these harmful chemicals!
(This includes chip bags, which are coated with plastic.)
I love doing this… the kids and I bought a little toaster oven at the thriftstore…to use outside just for this purpose… I have never heard of shrinking chip bags… but you never know… maybe we will try it…
