Pet Projects by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, published by Taunton Press (February 1, 2009).

Pet Projects: The animal knits bible – I am not sure about the ‘bible’ in the title. This usually refers to a book that is a complete reference – the ultimate source of knowledge on a particular subject. If feel that this is a big term to live up to. However after that gripe I do think that this is an excellent book of pet knits. It does cover wide ground, from the usual pet sweaters to hamster houses and horse rosettes.

I do feel I must comment on the gorgeous photo on the cover. Understated style and cute to boot!

This book, thankfully, is not full of variations on the animal sweater, there are also pet beanbags, horse blanket, cat mat (in the shape of mouse – totally cute), dog collars, an adorable tortoise tent, refashioned dog sweaters (totally chic), a bird feeder and the sweet hamster houses mentioned earlier. There is a also a section on knitting your own pet substitute – no room or time for a pet in your life – then knit yourself a tortoise (like the one on the cover), or a guinea pig or even a ferret!

Along with charts, good instructions and a readable introduction this book is a winner for pet lover and knitters.
