Seems we’re about quilt blocks today at Whipup. I really love this block, don’t know if I have the patience for it, but it looks fabulous. Link. Also worth checking out some others at flickr. Link.

Today its valentines day – feb 14, for me – married with two children, valentines day has lost its appeal, but still its an excuse pick some flowers from the garden and give all my loved ones a big juicy kiss. For others Valentines day is a big deal, romantic getaways and expensive gifts, some of you may hate valentines day – its just another reminder of your singleness – why not go crazy with anti valentine sentiment – or else celebrate your freedom with friends. For us crafty types valentines day is a really good excuse for some serious light hearted crafting. Whatever or however you feel about valentines day – I hope it was a good one.
Thinking of the victims of the Australian bushfires today – lost their homes and loved ones – why not spare some change for those in need – find out how you can give some handmade help here. Or buy something handmade here to help out the cause.
Some quick last minute valentines stuff – oh joy has some links to e-cards – very cute : I love these vintage valentine cards (one pictured here) : design for mankind – last minute giveaway.

Pet Projects by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, published by Taunton Press (February 1, 2009).
Pet Projects: The animal knits bible – I am not sure about the ‘bible’ in the title. This usually refers to a book that is a complete reference – the ultimate source of knowledge on a particular subject. If feel that this is a big term to live up to. However after that gripe I do think that this is an excellent book of pet knits. It does cover wide ground, from the usual pet sweaters to hamster houses and horse rosettes.
I do feel I must comment on the gorgeous photo on the cover. Understated style and cute to boot!
This book, thankfully, is not full of variations on the animal sweater, there are also pet beanbags, horse blanket, cat mat (in the shape of mouse – totally cute), dog collars, an adorable tortoise tent, refashioned dog sweaters (totally chic), a bird feeder and the sweet hamster houses mentioned earlier. There is a also a section on knitting your own pet substitute – no room or time for a pet in your life – then knit yourself a tortoise (like the one on the cover), or a guinea pig or even a ferret!
Along with charts, good instructions and a readable introduction this book is a winner for pet lover and knitters.
