Knitting for Dummies by Pam Allen, Tracy Barr and Shannon Okey. Published by Wiley 2 edition (October 6, 2008).
This is from the popular ‘for dummies’ how to series put out by Wiley. This series includes everything from how to games, design, art, sport, hobbies to languages, computers, book keeping and religion. I am really glad to see crafts getting a look in in this series. These books are so comprehensive, breaking down each topic into manageable chunks.
Like all of these books, knitting for dummies printed in black and white with lots of illustrations and with 340 pages there is a lot of information covered. Starting with the fundamentals for beginners – such as reading stitch patterns, gauge swatching as well as the basic stitches and how to fix mistakes. The more experienced knitter is covered too with a section on advanced techniques such as lace knitting, intarsia, Fair Isle and cables.
If you want to get started on knitting or improve your skills then this is a great reference book for your library.

most creative people I know keep a note book or visual diary of some sort – sometimes its online – but I love the feel of pen and paper. For me – its a hodge podge of sketches, and notes – I rarely take the time to stick in ephemera – but when I do it triggers ideas. My note books from my Uni days are filled with a visual feast of ideas – and while I do collect a lot of ephemera I rarely have the time to do anything with it.
I love the article from design observer about his notebook obsession – some lovely truths – I really related to it. [via craft]
