Fridah Mwenda has a Fabric shop on etsy specialising in cute Japanese Fabric.

She is offering 2 Whipup readers a $50 gift certificate to spend in her shop.

I love this shop and wanted to find out more about it.

Fabric giveaway

Fridah where are you located?
I moved to Singapore, the fabulous Red Dot with my family 5 years ago. I was a little apprehensive at first about the move to such a ‘faraway’ place… but this dynamic little city state is truly rich in color, diversity and culture.

How long have your been interested in Japanese crafts
I started out selling handmade jewelry in 2006 but realised that the market was too saturated. In my search for a new venture I stumbled the most adorable fabric I’d ever seen. I knew I had to get some. When I destashed the extra fabric I had purchased. When that sold in a matter of minutes I realised there was a huge market for Japanese fabric and crafts that I could fill.

What is your favourite Japanese crafts
The numerous unique craft supplies and tools are my favourite crafts items. Japanese have a way of making everything so simple to make or create. If you need to twist, fold, bend, carve, roll, whatever… there is probably a simple neat… and adorable tool somewhere for it. It doesn’t matter if you can’t read Japanese, the instructions are visual.

What is your most popular line
The Kokka and Lecien Cotton Linen collections have always had a good market. Recently however with the explosion of the Matryoshka trend, the collection of Matryoshka dolls from Cosmo Textiles have been highly popular.

What fabrics do you specialise in and what will you be stocking in the near future
I specialise in Japanese print fabric of the kawaii (cute/adorable in Japanese) kind, mainly in cotton and cotton/linen blends from Kokka, Cosmo-Textiles and Lecien. Mainly character prints that depict animals, anime characters, people, vegetables, etc.

In future I plan to bring in more traditional Japanese patterns, flowers and motifs. I am also thinking of dabbling in a bit of chirimen, kimono pattern prints and other Japanese designers like Shinzo Katoh, Mico Ogura’s Ecrulat and Puti De Pome, Etsuko Furaya and Naomi Ito

Thank you Fridah – to win one of these $50 vouchers please leave a comment with your favourite Japanese tool or fabric that you have used or are dying to try out. Comments open for 48 hours. Comments are now closed – winners will be contacted in the next few days – thank you everyone for entering.

8 Shari June 29, 2009 at 9:17 pm

The Clover Hat Making tool is so interesting. I’m not really a hat wearer, but I’ve never seen that. I love the fabrics too. I just started sewing again, so any of these would be really fun for a skirt.

9 Charlotte June 29, 2009 at 9:19 pm

I love the echino fabrics, but I also love a lot of the cuter stuff, too. I just got my daughter some bento boxes designed by Shinzo Katoh and I love that aesthetic!

The Adorable Tiny Matryoshka Dolls on Black are my favorite although I love it all! I always hide away my Japanese fabric, convincing myself I will someday find the perfect craft for it that I will be able to enjoy. I have some adorable robot fabric I bought in Chicago that I’ve been avoiding cutting up.

14 Chi June 29, 2009 at 9:30 pm

18 Christine June 29, 2009 at 9:40 pm

I love to use Japanese shibori dyeing techniques on plain cotton fabric to give my work a really individual look. Shibori is great when you use wave patterned stitches on cotton fabric and pull really tight before dyeing blue! Any shibori pattern is great but waves are my favourite! I also love the really bright candypop forest of flowers fabric – it just makes you happy! =D

19 Chris June 29, 2009 at 9:40 pm

Your site is wonderful and the fabrics are fantastic!!! Most any fabric with little mushrooms is darling!! Thank you!

20 Stacey Caffery June 29, 2009 at 9:42 pm

I didn’t know this existed. I love the bright colors and the innocence of the patterns. I especially love the rabbits and mushrooms and am thinking of all kinds of projects for my girls rooms. I have seen the Matryoshka dolls and just love those. I guess I am partial to the “girly” things because I have 4 daughters! LOL Thanks for making this available.

21 georgia June 29, 2009 at 9:43 pm

I love the Nani Iro double gauze. I’ve collected a few to make my Mum a quilt for her 60th birthday this year.
All of Clover’s bits and bobs are fantastic too!

22 Melissa Crowe June 29, 2009 at 9:43 pm

I’ve been dying to try those beautiful printed Japanese tapes–like masking tape only hella cool.

23 carrie June 29, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Love these prints:

Minny Muu Adorable Elephants

And I have wanted to try out a Japanese craft book. The projects are so beautifully simple in style.

34 gabrielle June 29, 2009 at 9:57 pm

i have a set of the double ended crochet needle, and i think it’s quite a diligent design, saving space & cost too. it is pretty difficult to purchase (unless online) kawaii japanese fabric in my country, it is lower in demand, and really really costly.. so i got really excited that whipup posted this entry!

35 Robin June 29, 2009 at 9:59 pm

I have been dying to get some japanese fabric! I love the scale of the designs and the casualness of them. I hope I win! thanks!

37 Lydia Dowe June 29, 2009 at 10:02 pm

I am making a outfit for a anime convention and would love to use your fabric. It would be very original. I am making a diacora outfit and the fabric would be great for a skirt. Thank you for this opportunity.

38 Lydia Dowe June 29, 2009 at 10:03 pm

sorry, any fabric with cutie things on it would be fine.

39 Carmen June 29, 2009 at 10:09 pm

I love Japanese fabric with geometrical print, the classical prints from the old times, like the one that looks like a rainbow but just has two colors, very simple. I also love Japanese fabric that has been dyed with indigo pigment. Overall I love Japanese simplicity in art and the reflection of nature!

40 bronwen June 29, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Honestly I love anything by Clover, they make such great products. I love their punch needle patterns, so cute!
The Japanese have great, tiny embroidery ideas. Adorable when made up!

45 marymary June 29, 2009 at 10:35 pm

I love the fabrics so much — and the books. I have a few Japanese books of children’s clothes patterns, but I haven’t actually tried them yet.

46 Missy Ann June 29, 2009 at 10:37 pm

What isn’t to love about Japanese craftiness?!

My favorite is the printed trims they make. And the hedgehogs. Anything with a hedgehog is wonderful in my book.

47 katey June 29, 2009 at 10:39 pm

I would love to get Kids Zakka and More- Japanese Sewing Craft Book to make for my kids stuff :)

48 Emily June 29, 2009 at 10:44 pm

I love the pom-pom maker – my friend has one and it is so easy to use. Also the double sided crochet hooks would be very handy. Just about everything on that website is appealing – the fabric, the books, everything.

49 Kara June 29, 2009 at 10:45 pm

My favorite print of the moment is a Japanese cotton/linen blend that has little robots on it. So far, I just look at it, I hate to cut it up. Still trying to decide on the perfect project for it. I also have a great little hedgehog print that I love.

50 DebbieKL June 29, 2009 at 10:58 pm

53 Carrie June 29, 2009 at 11:02 pm

Great shop – I haven’t seen many of these fabrics anywhere else. I love all the animal fabrics, especially the pandas.

54 Jesselyn June 29, 2009 at 11:02 pm

I love the Japanese linen-look cotton prints – last year I made my boyfriend a pillowcase with the “Robot March” print.

55 anna June 29, 2009 at 11:05 pm

I would LOVE a few of those tiny matryoshka buttons to adorn my future projects!

56 Jacqui June 29, 2009 at 11:12 pm

I bought a yard of Lecien’s Folklore fabric awhile ago and I love it so much I’m not really sure what to do with it! I have this fear that if I make something for my daughter she’ll grow out of it so quickly I won’t get a chance to love it as much as I want to. So it just sits in my stash, being fondled occasionally until I take the plunge.

57 Amy June 29, 2009 at 11:13 pm

the cotton linen blends are really nice to work with and of course I love each and every one of my clover tools.

58 Nova June 29, 2009 at 11:17 pm

I’m looking forward to trying out my sashiko needles.

59 Nada June 29, 2009 at 11:18 pm

I love the nsni iro gauzes

60 Alex June 29, 2009 at 11:35 pm

I love the cuteness of some of these Japanese fabrics. I haven’t had the opportunity to use them in crafts or sewing projects yet, but I really want to. I want to make myself a furoshiki and bento box belt to snazz up my lunchtime. My favorite Japanese craft material that I’ve used has to be Noro Silk Garden yarn. It’s a mix of silk, mohair, and lambswool. Each skein is a mix of colors, but unlike regular variegated yarns, the colors do not repeat in a regular pattern. You never know what your are going to end up with when you start knitting.

61 *emy June 29, 2009 at 11:37 pm

I absolutely LOVE my gocco, I’ve used it on everything from my wedding invitation to my baby’s first outfit! And I would probably spend my 401K on Japanese craft books if I didn’t think my kid would one day want to go to an art university.

62 Rebecca June 29, 2009 at 11:38 pm

I’ve never used any Japanese fabric, but I love the patterns, and have always wanted to try them!

63 Page June 29, 2009 at 11:41 pm

I LOVE the patchwork Japanese fabrics and the ones with the little vehicles driving along a road. TOO CUTE! Thank you so much for the giveaway. I can’t wait!!! ~Page PS J. crochet books are the bomb with very clear instructions that transcend the language difference.

64 edina June 29, 2009 at 11:44 pm

The Clover bias tape maker and pom-pom makers are great!

65 charlotte June 29, 2009 at 11:46 pm

all the cute animal prints are adorable… the elephants, rabbits, bears, and pandas are too sweet!!! i do not have any japanese fabrics in my fabric stash yet and think it is about time i remedied that.

66 Miss Eyebright June 30, 2009 at 12:04 am

I haven’t had a chance to use any yet, but I’d love to!

69 JulieK June 30, 2009 at 12:10 am

While looking around a local fabric shop, I stumbled upon a couple of bolts of Japanese “ready-made” valance fabric. Instead of hanging it in the window, I threaded the holes with ribbon and wear the “valance” as an apron both in the normal fashion and also high along an empire waistline.

70 Leah June 30, 2009 at 12:22 am

I have some Japanese Wizard of Oz fabric -fairly heavy weight, and just asking to be made up into something…. maybe a bag.

71 franticallysimple June 30, 2009 at 12:22 am

I’ve been admiring the lovely and fun style of Japanese fabrics for awhile now, but I haven’t used any yet. I hope I win. :)

72 Suzanne June 30, 2009 at 12:37 am

Oh my gosh, what’s not to love? I would LOVE to try some of these Japanese fabrics and get a hole of some of the books. I love the Japanese knitting books. I’d love to make a bag with the Splash of Flowers canvas!

What a wonderful giveaway, thank you!

73 Rebecca June 30, 2009 at 12:37 am

I haven’t tried any of the japanese fabrics, but I love the look of them. So cute. It’s so hard to find nice “boy” fabric, but I’d love to make something with Persons Little White Dogs or Fishes in Coral.

74 michelle June 30, 2009 at 12:41 am

I really want to use some bold floral prints, such as “Candypop Forest of Flowers on Black.”

75 shannon June 30, 2009 at 12:44 am

I love Japanese fabrics, especially anything with polka dots.

76 Renata June 30, 2009 at 12:49 am

I looooooove Japanese fabric and wish I could find it locally, or even within 500 miles of me! :( I’m a sucker for Hello Kitty – always have been and always will – but the bright, cheerful origami paper-like florals just delight me! Then again, I’m a fan of skulls too… you see my problem?! :D

77 Michelle June 30, 2009 at 1:02 am

I loved my little Japanese stitch snippers, unfortunately they have gotten dull with time. :( Your fabric is lovely!

78 Chelsie June 30, 2009 at 1:15 am

I took a look at Fridah’s shop, and I am now “dying” to try out her Candypop Crayola Stars on White. It’s too cute and may end up being mine even if I don’t win!

79 aija June 30, 2009 at 1:16 am

My favorite Japanese tool were the simple but perfect one-piece U-shaped scissors of my grandmother, perfect for small sharp cuts and minimal exertion.

80 Anna June 30, 2009 at 1:30 am

its a tough call between the dancing panda fabric and the sausage dog buttons, but i think the buttons win out…

81 BeckyS June 30, 2009 at 1:46 am

I’ve never had the chance to try out Japanese fabrics. I love the looks of the cottons and the summer kimono fabrics. They are beautiful!

82 Samantha June 30, 2009 at 2:04 am

I, too, have yet to use Japanese fabrics, but the colors are so vibrant and patterns so unique!

83 Dawn June 30, 2009 at 2:05 am

I’ve never used Japanese fabrics but I think they are lovely. I really like the kimono fabrics too! I do love the Japanese books…I have a few.

84 Gina June 30, 2009 at 2:14 am

Ooh, I like the sashiko thread and needles, and I’ve loved the echino fabrics that have come my way.

85 Jamie Chubbuck June 30, 2009 at 2:52 am

I’ve been dying to use a Japanese fabric to make a totebag with. They’re all so cute and quirky, they’d really give a purse a huge amount of personality!

86 Julie June 30, 2009 at 3:12 am

I recently just picked up sewing again after many years – and a big part of that was being inspired by all the wonderful Japanese fabrics that I wanted to make adorable things from too! I tried some Echino and some Kokka fabrics and loved them so much that nothing else seemed as good anymore! The adorable prints, the wonderful colors – even the feel and textures are amazing! Now I just stalk my favorite online shops and drool over the fabrics I dream of buying when I’m a little less poor. :) I’ve had a looooong look at Fridah’s shop and this will definitely be my new favorite place to spend a little drooling time – and many thanks to Fridah and WhipUp for this chance to win some wonderful goodies!

87 katrin June 30, 2009 at 4:26 am

I really love my clover felting tool and a punchneedle of a different brand (I can’t read which brand actually it is).
As I love hats I would definitely try the hat making stencils… and being at it, I’d add the bag stencils to my list.

Recently I invested in some lovely fabrics from Japan for a messenger bag, but one can never have enough fabric, right?

88 Christina June 30, 2009 at 4:45 am

Japanese craft books, hands down, are the best out there. Even if I don’t know what it says, the photos and diagrams make it very very clear.

89 Lilis June 30, 2009 at 4:46 am

I like to use japanese cotton, but it’s very difficult to find it in the fabric shop. A lot of them are available online but it costs a lot to ship if I buy online :(

90 carla June 30, 2009 at 5:37 am

i love japanese fabrics. they are so cute.
i have some miffy fabrics i bought from mwendas sometime ago, they probably will be turned into pillows for my baby’s nursery.

91 Kim June 30, 2009 at 5:42 am

I am totally in love with my clover quick-unpick (makes unpicking twice as fast) and the wonderful design of their bias binding makers is a revelation to people like me who feel compelled to make their own quilt binding!

92 Eerika June 30, 2009 at 5:42 am

What a great giveaway and super interview too!
I love retro-inspired Japanese prints, and when ever I can get my hands on them, I’ve used them for everything I could! And like a lot of people above, I’m a big fan of Japanese craft books too, they have such great ideas in them!

93 Laura June 30, 2009 at 5:46 am

I couldn’t comment about things Japanese without saying how much I LOVE my gocco :) I found a lovely (and free) sewing pattern for a baby kimono style top that I’d love to try making for my niece. Some gorgeous Japanese fabric would be so cute to make it from. I always especially love fabrics with fairy tale designs on them… or hedgehogs… or elephants…

94 Kati June 30, 2009 at 5:52 am

I love the japanese Kawaii fabrics (fairy tales, mushrooms, deers…) so much that I´m NOT Dying to use them – I´m afraid to use them because I love every little piece of them.

With this generous giveaway I might be healed!

95 Niina June 30, 2009 at 6:12 am

I love Japanese prints that have been inspired by everyday items. They usually capture the essence of those said items.

96 Susan in Arkansas June 30, 2009 at 6:29 am

I would love a chance to win, thanks so much! Now I’m off to peruse your shop. I like all things Japanese, they have such a way with small things, which really appeals to me.

97 sherah June 30, 2009 at 6:30 am

Every time I see a fabric with a super-cute print on it, it always ends up to be Japanese! They really know what they are doing!

98 Angie June 30, 2009 at 7:43 am

Echino fabric would have to be my all time favourite!

99 Heather June 30, 2009 at 7:44 am

Wow. Where to begin? Pink pigs? Raccoons? that squirrelly woodland one? I love all of it. All of it!

100 Tatyana June 30, 2009 at 8:02 am

I started to love Japanese fabrics since I was a child. My Mom was a fashionista back then and preffered her garments to be custom made. She had tonns of dresses in Japanese silks, shiffons, etc. I grew up knowing, that it is the best quality you can find and still loving Japanese fabrics for their awesomness (is there such a word? :) ).
Also – I do some knitting and crochet and my fave tools are Clover brand crochet hooks, bamboo knitting needles, and endless accessories they offer. Again – superb quality and design. Gotta love it.

101 Yin June 30, 2009 at 8:11 am

My favorite Japanese tool would probably have to be the gocco machine, even though I don’t own one. It invokes creativity among people, and it’s such an amazing machine!

I also love the Japanese print fabric. It is super cute! Thanks for the giveaway!

102 rubbishknitter June 30, 2009 at 8:24 am

I totally love Japanese fabric… so difficult to pick a favourite from that shop, but it might have to be Winking Owls…

103 Melissa H. June 30, 2009 at 8:36 am

I love those little pink piggies!

104 Ruth June 30, 2009 at 8:42 am

There is just something so unique and recognisable about japenese fabric, is the goko printer japanese – I have been dyeing to try that for ages.

105 Ros June 30, 2009 at 8:54 am

I love all the Kokka fabrics but perhaps the little hedgehog one is my favourite.

106 Wendy G. June 30, 2009 at 8:56 am

The Mwenda’s is so cute…the ideas are swirling in my head…

107 Lee June 30, 2009 at 8:59 am

I’m with Ros. The hedgies are my favorite fabric. Something about them just makes me smile. The Fairy Tale fabrics are very sweet, with a European feeling that is very nice.

108 Mary Jo June 30, 2009 at 9:00 am

The Little Scribbles print is so great. What a lovely giveaway!

109 nan June 30, 2009 at 9:02 am

110 Amy June 30, 2009 at 9:05 am

My favorite Japanese fabrics are the ones that seem to reproduce European ephemera. So lovely.

111 Denise June 30, 2009 at 9:13 am

I got a futte Futte a while back, it is a tool to make felted balls/beads. I have yet to try it out, but soon will! I just HAD to have it.

I also like my hanaami loom, flower loom set. Wish I could get hold of a book or two for it, but so far no luck!

112 Jenny June 30, 2009 at 9:30 am

I just made some cute little baby goodies with the Kokka teddy bears fabric, natural background. So adorable. I’m intrigued by the Japanese pattern books, but have yet to get one and try it out!

113 missweb June 30, 2009 at 9:38 am

I love any all Japanese fabrics! I have a great stash from a gal who moved back to Canada and emptied her shop. Can always use more though!

I am really dying to try sashiko embroidery! I love Japanese fabric and all of the cute prints that I just can’t seem to find here in Texas! I lived in Korea for 7 years and loved visiting Japan when I had the chance. Oh how I miss the fabric and craft stores!

115 ~Heather June 30, 2009 at 9:47 am

I love Japanese ceramics, with the simple flowing shapes. One day soon I’m hoping to find a local kiln to ‘borrow’.

116 Zime June 30, 2009 at 9:55 am

OHHH I love all in this shop!!! Specially Animals and Matryoshka Dolls Yellow, Adorable Tiny Matryoshka Dolls on Red, Candypop Forest of Flowers on Pink!!
(^v^)

117 Anorthite June 30, 2009 at 9:56 am

I don’t believe I’ve ever used a tool that is specifically Japanese. But I’m loving that fabric used – the blue with white squares. I think it’s just lovely for a kid’s quilt or curtains or…so many options. :)

118 Stacey June 30, 2009 at 10:12 am

I honestly love kimono fabric. I love the textures and colors and patterns. I really want a Gocco, though, to play with, also!

119 Jan June 30, 2009 at 10:15 am

The only Japanese tool I have ever used is a Japanese Screw Punch. Love it! These are adorable fabrics and some of the tools look very interesting. The pom pom maker might be fun to try.

120 Cami June 30, 2009 at 10:19 am

I love the fairy tale type of fabrics. Gnomes and mushrooms–oh, my!!

121 Meagan June 30, 2009 at 10:19 am

I have been dying to create a cute Japanese print set of placemats, and now that my dining room table has come in, now is the time! This giveaway would make my idea come to life :)

122 Roseanna June 30, 2009 at 10:22 am

I am a big fan of Japanese fabrics and design…unique, fun and colorful!

123 Nancy June 30, 2009 at 10:34 am

I’ve never used Japanese fabric before, but have always wanted to. I especially like the Car, Bus, Car fabric in the shop. Thanks for the great giveaway.

124 Shanna June 30, 2009 at 6:24 pm

I love how super cute Japanese fabric is but it’s usually too expensive to buy. Thanks for the chance to win!

125 courtney June 30, 2009 at 6:54 pm

I love the Japanese sewing pattern books. The one for mama and child looks particularly lovely.

126 Jeni June 30, 2009 at 6:56 pm

I absolutely love the Japanese fabrics with the little cartoon characters and their little simple facial features!

127 Jules June 30, 2009 at 7:22 pm

So kawaii! Love the fabric prints, especially the animal ones (rabbits in kimonos!).

128 Kellie June 30, 2009 at 7:28 pm

I have this adorable elephant fabric that i just cant cut, its too cute. I think the embriodery patterns in your shop are sweet. They may be on my next buy list, unless I win, that is. =)

129 Camila June 30, 2009 at 7:32 pm

Aw, these fabrics are really adorable!

130 SarahmHardy June 30, 2009 at 7:34 pm

The Japanese fabric prints! So many to choose from, can’t get enough!

131 Jaime June 30, 2009 at 8:09 pm

Oh how I love the fabrics! I have some of the coveted scooter fabric and I can’t wait to use it for a quilt for my new baby! Thanks for the opportunity!

132 sherri s. June 30, 2009 at 8:31 pm

I love all of the Japanese craft books…and the linen tape, too.

133 Kate June 30, 2009 at 8:39 pm

I love little owl prints – I’m hoping my preggo friend is having a girl so I can make her the cutest baby quilt!

134 Katie June 30, 2009 at 9:06 pm

How adorable! Both of my siblings just had children and the crayola stars and circles will be great for projects I’m working on.

135 Zoe June 30, 2009 at 9:08 pm

I have some japanese fabric with little red riding hood and the wolf on it. I made it into little teabag wallets, and used wooden owl buttons for the wallet closure. very sweet. Plus everything that is made is made better by Clover.

136 LaLisha June 30, 2009 at 9:20 pm

I purchased my first and only piece of Japanese fabric a few months ago. i love it! It is the small geisha girls, they are my favorite. My daughter will be attending college next year and we hope to decorate her room oriental. I believe that the fabric is finely made and is truly an art all to itself. we are keeping our fingers crossed.

137 dulcet June 30, 2009 at 9:20 pm

I love those little thread snippers (nigiri?).

138 Elena June 30, 2009 at 9:36 pm

I love all the cutesy Japanese fabrics and wish I had better access to the tools and great stuff they have. I love ordering bag handles and hardware because it’s the best there is.

139 Kelly June 30, 2009 at 9:50 pm

This is so generous! I LOVE the Japanese prints, especially the animal ones. I would love to make a quilt or maybe a great tote bag for work with some of them. Although I gotta say, the sewing books are inspiring and the little buttons would be the perfect finishing touch on a blouse or skirt!

Fingers crossed…

140 Kelly June 30, 2009 at 9:52 pm

I love Japanese prints, especially the animal ones on linen. Classy and cute at the same time! I would love to make a tote bag or purse with some of the prints.

Although, I have to say, the sewing books are inspiring and the little buttons would be such a great finishing touch on a blouse or skirt.

Also, what a great shop, huge selection. Fingers crossed…

141 Christy M. June 30, 2009 at 9:56 pm

I love making cute little pouches and book covers out of japanese fabrics! I especially like little animal prints because they are so darn adorable.

142 May June 30, 2009 at 9:56 pm

I have these sanrio prints that I got during my first trip to Japan. Just have been saving them for the perfect project. Just love them too much to use them for just anything.

143 Jen June 30, 2009 at 9:58 pm

So cute!

144 bumblybee_su June 30, 2009 at 9:59 pm

I love Japanese fabrics, and I would definitely love to have some of Kokka. I also love Japanese craft books especially those with patchwork and embroidery (there’s one which I’m currently coveting – 365 designs collection for kids!)

145 lesley June 30, 2009 at 10:12 pm

i too haven’t purchased much japanese fabric because the price is steep and it’s often too beautiful to cut into! i’m a new fan of sashiko, it’s my new favorite (portable) craft! i’ve been able to almost completely blot out the NYC subway happenings on my morning commute, and it’s WONDERFUL!

146 Sara L. June 30, 2009 at 10:17 pm

Oh, I love Kokka very much, and I used an adorable linen/cotton print of the big bad wolf in the forest for a jacket for my daughter. I love all of the whimsical fairy tale fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway! Fingers crossed!

147 Lunachance June 30, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Wow, there are so many neat fabrics in her shop. I loved the wiener dogs, the laundry on the line and some of the pig fabrics. So much fun.

148 Nancy June 30, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I love it all, but especially the wonderful printed ribbons and tapes. Nice etsy store, btw!

149 Sachi June 30, 2009 at 10:55 pm

I love almost everything Japanese! I especially love the Japanese fabric with little houses all over it–neighborhood.

150 Ellen (boltandfrolic) June 30, 2009 at 11:03 pm

I have some bunderful Japanese rabbit fabrics from your shop… so hard to cut into them, but one day I will, and create fun pillows!

151 Vicki K June 30, 2009 at 11:16 pm

I always love the Japanese cotton/linen blends that have dots or fruits or housekeeping themes. Also can’t resist anything with dachshunds.
What a nice selection in your shop!

152 bex July 1, 2009 at 12:46 am

Generally speaking, I don’t think you can go wrong with Japanese ribbon. BUT the hat kit is ingenious, and the book of crocheted plants made my heart skip.

153 TerryF July 1, 2009 at 1:04 am

I just received some adorable Japanese owl fabric and am really looking forward to making Christmas ornaments with it – I like to make origami kimonos from fused fabric instead of paper as they are more durable.

It is a good thing I don’t live in Japan as I would starve myself to buy fabric there (which is maybe not such a bad thing lol).

154 Merle July 1, 2009 at 1:08 am

I love the attention to detail and the colour combinations that the Japanese use in their fabrics. It is a superior textile quality, than many fabrics we have in my local shops, let alone the actual prints….to die for!

155 brooke July 1, 2009 at 1:18 am

I love my Clover seam ripper, and this japanese fabric I picked up at Cool Cottons with Little Red Riding Hood on it. I went back and bought 2 more yards of it!

156 LisaB July 1, 2009 at 2:06 am

I’ve always wanted to learn furoshiki – the Japanese art of wrapping everything in fabric to make carrying stuff pretty and easy. And to use some fabulously cute Japanese fabric for it!

157 bFlat July 1, 2009 at 2:15 am

I love all the the fabric in her store! Here’s hoping I win!

158 karin July 1, 2009 at 3:06 am

I’ve had some Japanese fairytale fabric that I loved. I think I used it to the last little scrap! The fabrics pictured above are very pretty too. I just have a period in which I’m trying to buy less and use more of my stash, but seeing these makes it a bit hard to not go browsing for fabrics!

159 Helen July 1, 2009 at 3:39 am

My favourite Japanese tool is my Hera..a little plastic device vaguely like a letter opener, used for marking fabric. I think it’s Japanese…

160 Lynsey July 1, 2009 at 5:53 am

Cool giveaway! I have some Japanese fabric that I haven’t used yet even though I have had it for a couple of years :)

161 Shelley July 1, 2009 at 6:16 am

I love the Japanese fabrics that I’ve used. They make such cute projects for my 2 year old daughter. I’d especially like some of the matroshka print since I have a great love of them having spent several years in Kazakhstan.

162 Nathalie July 1, 2009 at 6:21 am

Whaou… to say which one I prefer would be too difficult…I like them all ! Thank you so much.

163 Danielle July 1, 2009 at 7:23 am

i won’t lie, i am not all that familiar with Japanese fabrics.. this interview pushed me to Google for an explore. Love, love, love! No wonder Fridah went in this direction!

164 Ingrid July 1, 2009 at 7:36 am

I love the fabrics, especially the Fishes in Coral series. And I’d like to have a look at those crochet hooks!

165 Melissa July 1, 2009 at 8:08 am

I love Japanese fabrics – thanks for the offer!

166 AnjaB July 1, 2009 at 8:24 am

My must have: Kokka’s matryoshka dolls! Sooo cute – I just can’t make myself actually use it for something. Guess I will just keep ist forever …

167 Ashley July 1, 2009 at 9:17 am

I’m a fan of japanese fabrics, like so many others! I really like the small scale prints – so detailed and cute! I saw many in this shop that I’d like to have come live with me!

168 Carrie July 1, 2009 at 10:06 am

Hope I’m not too late. I’m such a fan of the japanese fabrics I have accumulated so far. I’m just so scared to actually cut into them. I don’t want to ruin them!

169 Megan July 1, 2009 at 11:13 am

I think the “cafeteria pause” fabric is ridiculously cute. I also like any fabrics with squirrels!

170 apple cyder July 1, 2009 at 11:14 am

i love the photo styling in japanese craft books so much!

171 Sue Cahill July 1, 2009 at 11:39 am

I think there are many Japanese novelty fabrics perfect for little boy quilts, with 5 grandsons I’m always looking for bright, happy “boy” fabrics. They tend to be hard to find in American fabrics, they are mostly sports or automobile related.

I would love to have a bit of lots of the novelty fabrics to make “I Spy” quilts.

172 coffeechris July 1, 2009 at 11:43 am

Cuteness cuteness! I am making a Mai Tei for a gift for special new parents and would love to put in one of those cute kiddie Japanese prints..thanks for the great give-a-way.

173 Seattlejo July 1, 2009 at 11:44 am

Pick me! :-)

174 Seattlejo July 1, 2009 at 11:45 am

Oh wait, what tool or technique i like best? I tried shabori once and was delighted at the delicate designs it made.

175 Stephanie L. July 1, 2009 at 2:20 pm

I like to go to this one thrift shop where I live. They get in shipments of old/worn out/tattered kimonos and I salvage the fabric. Its great!

I’ve never used japanese print fabric before, but I’d love to!

176 Laura July 1, 2009 at 3:10 pm

The japanese fabric with the butterflies would accompany my upcoming wedding so perfectly! I may have to splurge on some of that!

177 Jennifer July 1, 2009 at 4:29 pm

I’ve always loved Japanese fabrics, but could never get my hands on any. The prints are so cute!

178 Gabrien July 1, 2009 at 6:13 pm

I love Lecien. Very cute stuff. Thank you!

179 Annel July 1, 2009 at 6:20 pm
