in Books

This is the almost the last stop on the fabulous blog tour ofCrochet Adorned: Reinvent Your Wardrobe with Crocheted Accents, Embellishments, and Trims by Linda Permann. And a chance to win a copy of this gorgeous book too.

First up congratulations Linda on a gorgeous and original crochet book. There are some truly innovative designs and super cute uses for crochet in this book – I am loving it!

Crochet Adorned ticks all points on my crochet must have list. Charts, instructions, detailed how-to and cool projects.

With super cute edging on clothing (perfect to give new life to loved outfits), brooches and earrings and even lovely edging on shoes – how adorable is that! I love the edged coat in the picture below and there is a lovely apron (with a pattern on how to sew it as well) with a crochet butterfly just to make you feel like a domestic goddess! As well as adorning your clothing and self with crochet you can also adorn your home with crochet cuteness – crochet bowls, table runners and pillows.

Just on my first flick through I was struck by how perfect Linda’s colour choices and style are throughout. Like most craft books there is always going to be something where you say ‘what the’ and this book is no exception – however with 99% fabulousness I am willing to forgive that 1%.

I particularly love the stitch dictionary at the back – showing swatches with charts, stitch key and detailed instructions. The stitch dictionary goes through different trims (there are 25) useful for not only trimming clothing and linens but also for making ribbon and fringing and jewelry. Next there are a variety of motifs, such as flowers and granny squares, hexagons and triangles. Then the stitch patterns – starting with single crochet, and moving on through double, treble and faux rib stitch and onto textured stitches – love the bobble stitch, and waffle stitch and puff stitch. Then on to mesh and netting stitches, and lace stitches – love the shells and scallops, strawberry stitch and daisy lace. The last of the stitch dictionary is on colour work – ripple stitch, cross stitch over single crochet, catherine wheel and more.

This book is a wonderful crochet resource for newbies and more advanced crocheters. It has to be one of the best crochet books I have seen in a long time – with fabulous instructions and projects that I will actually make.

I use crochet a lot with my knitting, adding on a border to an afghan or baby blanket, or using it with necklines, cuffs and hems. I think it adds a nice touch and helps make things lie flatter or look more finished. I’d love to use it for jewelry, too.

2 bless August 25, 2009 at 6:36 pm

i like to make flowers and butterflies to put on pillows

3 rachelle August 25, 2009 at 6:46 pm

Im new to crocheting and really enjoy it. This book would be a great resource. I would love to learn how to make cute flowers and edging so I can adorn my daughters. So cool.

4 Laura August 25, 2009 at 6:48 pm

I’m only just learning to crochet but I’d love to be able to make a variety of little brooches to jazz up my lapel. I’m definitely feeling the end of summer here and anything to brighten rainy old autumn and winter would be lovely :)

5 Aimee August 25, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Crochet is actually one of my main crafts…I haven’t used it much as an embellishment. However, my mother used some of my great-grandmother’s crocheted lace on our wedding quilt years ago, and I love the touch it adds!

I would love to use thread crochet to embellish plain tees, and I’m thinking of it for the hem of the skirt I want to make out of my old jeans, too.

6 Kimberly August 25, 2009 at 6:53 pm

I love to adorn myself with crocheted flowers on a pin for clothing or hair. That is also one of my favorite gifts to give, choosing the perfect colors and textures for a friend or family member. I’d love to expand to more crocheted adornment. This book is lovely!

Thank you for the giveaway!

7 Bonney August 25, 2009 at 7:00 pm

Great Book!! I love to crochet embellishments for barrettes and headbands. Things really look peppy with some colorful adornments!

8 Cath August 25, 2009 at 7:12 pm

This looks like a great book. At the moment I use crochet edges to finish of my tea cosy’s. I’d love to get some more inspiration.

9 Avital August 25, 2009 at 7:16 pm

I use crochet for embellishing mini albums and cards. I crochet little flowers and they add a beautiful touch. I also love flower-crochet barrettes to keep my unruly locks at bay…

10 Catherine August 25, 2009 at 7:16 pm

I’m still really digging crocheted cowls.

11 Anne August 25, 2009 at 7:22 pm

I love to make oodles of crochet flowers and use them to trim purses, headbands, granny squares, gift packages and whatever else strikes my fance. They also make a nice garland when joined together.

12 Tamara August 25, 2009 at 7:39 pm

I sew and when something doesn’t come out quite perfect, I use crocheted flowers, edging, etc. to cover up my mistakes! Much more fun than ripping out seams!

13 Tamara August 25, 2009 at 7:42 pm

I love to sew and when something doesn’t come out as planned, I cover it up with crocheted flowers or edging. Much more fun than ripping out seams!

14 Bexy August 25, 2009 at 7:44 pm

crochet is a great way to use up old plastic shopping bags and broken old green bags – cut into strips and made into granny squares they adorn a whole lot of pot plants on the balcony!

19 jessica August 25, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Still learning the basics of crochet, but love the finished edging look it gives my handknits!

20 Jeana August 25, 2009 at 8:11 pm

I wish I were a more advanced crocheter, but I have just picked it up again and am loving it! Books like this one inspire me, and I buy more yarn for projects than I have time for.

This summer I have crocheted three baby afghans for nieces and nephews, a granny square purse I felted, and trim for a peasant blouse.

Crocheting is my pleasure and my multitask while watching TV.

21 Panya August 25, 2009 at 8:23 pm

Crocheting blankets are still my favorite.

22 meg August 25, 2009 at 8:25 pm

oooh. i am new to crocheting, but i would love to adorn my clothing like that teal-green top! so lovely.

23 Amy Rochelle August 25, 2009 at 8:31 pm

I love doilies and the crocheted edging on receiving blankets and pillow cases. Having said that, I really enjoy seeing the new and inventive ways young designers are stirring an interest in crocheting again. Just love the creative things going on. Since I have two grown boys, looks like this book would be nice for ideas of things to make for their girlfriends!

24 Katie R August 25, 2009 at 8:32 pm

i have really only used crochet for blankets, i think it would be a great resource to learn to do more!

25 pixie August 25, 2009 at 8:37 pm

I love crochet edges on cushions and throws. My mum used to recycle old towels by cutting a square and crocheting an edge around it, making a facecloth, flannel….whatever you call it…..

26 Jessica August 25, 2009 at 8:38 pm

I would love to remake a wool, tweady skirt with an entire floral arrangement!

27 charmaine August 25, 2009 at 8:38 pm

I have never used crochet as a trim,,,,,, but getting lotz of ideas, from the collar on the cover of the book, pick me!

28 Martha Callaway August 25, 2009 at 8:41 pm

36 Katy August 25, 2009 at 10:11 pm

I love crochet edgings – especially for salvaging knit hats that are too big or too short.

37 patonslake August 25, 2009 at 10:18 pm

I crochet scarves and emblish them with crochet flowers. From Attic24′s blog, I’ve also crocheted flowers and attached to a chain “rope” to hang them across windows. My craft club at school enjoyed the flowers and had them hanging from their zippers on their backpacks, some even had them dangling from their pens.

38 maya August 25, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I’ve been wanting to learn to crochet forever and this book sounds like the perfect resource. I’d want to crochet edging for all of the clothes and accessories I make… to start… then onto flowers! Thanks for this opportunity, Kath!

39 Joan August 25, 2009 at 10:57 pm

I’ve been crocheting since I was 6. I was always making something. I love doilies and flowers and sew them to clothing, make hair adornments etc. This book looks great.

40 courtney August 25, 2009 at 11:26 pm

I’m thinking some crochet gloves for keeping warm.

43 Terri August 26, 2009 at 12:18 am

I’ve been trying to figure out a way to add crochet adornments to clothes. Tired of just crocheted edgings. I’ve been peeking at this book online and really like the ideas I’ve seen so far. I hate to say it, but I use old doilys as face scrubbies, becuse they look so cute in the bathroom!

44 Hannah Stevenson August 26, 2009 at 12:43 am

48 Hedgehog August 26, 2009 at 2:55 am

I’ve been trying to resist the crochet bug (knitting and quilting are so consuming!), but I have been eying this book as it’s been popping up all over the blogosphere! Perfect for the reducing the stash – and some small projects, too!! Thanks for the chance to win it!

49 Aveen August 26, 2009 at 2:57 am

I went through a stage of crocheting corsages. I made tons of them in all different colours and had one to go with every outfit. Right now though I’ve just started to get into bead crochet so I’m a bit obsessed with that. I’m dying to get this book but it’s not out here in the UK till October!

50 bumblybee_su August 26, 2009 at 2:58 am

I’m new to crochet, and am enjoying myself :)
A nice crocheted scarf would be wonderful :)

51 Jo August 26, 2009 at 3:18 am

I liked making my twirly crochet scarf and crocheted choker necklace… have also started adding doilies to skirts…

52 livebird August 26, 2009 at 3:51 am

I learned to crochet six days ago. For now, the only adornment has been of my house with numerous balls of wool and scraps of yarn as I chain and double and treble…. then pull it all out again because I made a mistake a while back… but I’m working on my mad crochet skills until I’m good enough to make hyperbolic coral reefs! This book would help!

53 J. Harmon August 26, 2009 at 4:00 am

I love crochet flowers for my daughter’s hair.

54 Amanda August 26, 2009 at 4:00 am

I just learned how to crochet and I haven’t adorned anything yet, but I’m planning on embellishing my shoes.

My Daughter and her dolls love a good old granny sqaure blanket or two. Me, i am a bit partial to making a flower, and turning it into a brooch. This book looks great!

58 gill August 26, 2009 at 5:39 am

just seen this fabulous book in INSIDE CROCHET magazine and i would love to win a copy

59 rosa souza August 26, 2009 at 5:50 am

I’m still learning how to chochet and I’m getting more passionate about it everyday! I’ve been dreaming about a beautiful granny squares bedspread for my little girl’s bed.

60 Dawn August 26, 2009 at 6:16 am

Crocheted edgings!! On washcloths, towels, kitchen towels, pillow cases…

61 Anna August 26, 2009 at 6:26 am

I love crocheted lace curtains that let the sunshine in on wintery days; I love crocheted throws that warm me amd my friends in winter.
It’s wonderful to see that crochet IS making a comeback!

62 Betty Anne August 26, 2009 at 7:24 am

I use crochet in scarves and jewelry – just about anything that wraps arounds me. Small pieces are manageable time wise and you can splurge on luxurious yarns.

63 Kate August 26, 2009 at 7:29 am

I started crocheting 4 months ago and have barely stopped since. I have made brooches, blankets, hair accessories, scarves, half a dress and many edgey bits that have been sewn onto clothing.

64 Rachael August 26, 2009 at 8:06 am

I want to make a granny square purse or scarf!

65 Amaranto August 26, 2009 at 8:12 am

I love the way bathroom towels look with a lace crocheted edging, love the romantic touch white crocheted pillows on my bed give to the whole room, love crocheting small bags to wear at night especially in summertime, love the way a colourful granny square afghan can make you feel at home.

68 Aly August 26, 2009 at 8:42 am

My grandmother used to crochet quite a bit, and my favorite crocheted items were made by her. I especially love her snowflake ornaments.

69 Corvus August 26, 2009 at 9:05 am

I’ve been trying to learn to crochet for years, and so far have not been successful (though I will be, have no fear!). I have dreams of brimmed hats and toys and lacey crocheted edging on everything.

70 Deanna August 26, 2009 at 9:22 am

I like to crochet headbands and fancy pot holders

71 Esther August 26, 2009 at 9:23 am

I love to add crochet edging to hemstitched flannel blankets.

72 Michelle August 26, 2009 at 9:31 am

73 Debbie August 26, 2009 at 9:47 am

Planning a new blanket project and love what I’ve seen of this book! Thanks.

74 MzTallulah August 26, 2009 at 9:56 am

I have learnt to crochet from my grandma, but only mastered the basics. The largest project I have ever completed were two eight-foot lacey curtains in cotton for my bedroom.

75 Sheri August 26, 2009 at 9:58 am

So far I’ve used crochet in afgans but I’m attempting to embelish a t-shirt. :) This book looks fabulous!

76 Sarah August 26, 2009 at 9:58 am

I love to crochet! Afghans, baby blankets for showers and charity, tiny booties, hats… My kids’ best friends were surprised when I made them scarves one Christmas! I’m itching to crochet some earrings! And I’m desperately wanting to use some (maybe all!)of the patterns in the book..
Thanks for the giveaway chance.

77 mette August 26, 2009 at 9:59 am

my favourite is to use tiny crochet motives to sover up stains or moth-holes on old favourite garments – at least in theory, I haven’t gotten around to do so yet ;-)

78 Erin August 26, 2009 at 10:05 am

I’m actually just figuring out crochet – my mom and my little sister are teaching me, but the plan is for us all to make granny squares this fall/winter to make communal afghans, which I’m really looking forward to! I do knit and sew, so this book would be awesome to have for edging and crocheted lace at the tops of dresses and shirts, and the crocheted flowers I’d love to be able to do.

79 Jowyn August 26, 2009 at 10:18 am

It has to be the crochet waistcoat my Granny made me when I was a little girl. Made up of Granny Square blocks (how appropriate!)

80 Lisa August 26, 2009 at 10:18 am

I love putting little crocheted motifs on baby clothes. Looks like an amazing book.

81 Leigh August 26, 2009 at 10:23 am

I am crocheted granny square obsessed! I use them for blankets, pillow cases & scarves. They make me so happy. I’d love to win the book!

82 Flora Roszel August 26, 2009 at 10:39 am

I make receiving blankets and matching burp cloths from flannel and crochet trim around the edge. These make great gifts for new mothers.

83 Megan August 26, 2009 at 10:42 am

Most of my crocheting adorns other people, especially little ones. Or big ones, but in the wintertime. I’m excited about this book, though! I think it will make me more likely to make some things for myself and to expand my ideas for making things for other people.

84 Katy August 26, 2009 at 11:02 am

I love to crochet flowers. I’m planning a wreath similar to the one Linda designed a while back for Crochet Today.

85 regina August 26, 2009 at 11:07 am

Well, I haven’t done much crochet adornment yet. But, Linda certainly sparks the inspiration to do so. I would love to make earring and adorn a bag or two and definitely some sweaters and tops.

86 Kristen August 26, 2009 at 11:14 am

I’m a crocheter so I make entire projects out of crochet, but it can’t be beat for finishing anything. It’s great for details on children’s clothing, but still totally durable thanks to all the great washable yarn. I love this book!

87 Chelsey August 26, 2009 at 11:22 am

I’ve been a knitter for years and have been dying to try crochet. I can see it being used for the top of a little purse with a wooden handle – great for a summer wedding! It would also be fun to mix and match textures – use it as trim on leather or tweed.

88 Sophie August 26, 2009 at 11:24 am

I am addicted…what can I say? I crochet too much, and I am always looking for ways to use what I make- ways to use crochet that don’t look “dorky”. From what I’ve seen of “Crochet Adorned”, there is no “dorky”. I’d love to give it a try. What I most would like to adorn is clothes for myself and my daughter that we could actually proudly wear.

89 margar August 26, 2009 at 11:53 am

I have several flowers crocheted that I pin to mz Tshirts to change the look.
Easy and charming!

90 susie August 26, 2009 at 11:56 am

I love to poke a hole in thing and add edgings. Aprons, sweaters, blankets. Looking forward to seeing what fun ideas and projects are in the new crochet book!

91 Kate G. August 26, 2009 at 12:11 pm

This volume sounds like a must have. I applaud the kind of book that goes beyond projects to give you a springboard for designs of your own.

92 miss lila August 26, 2009 at 12:14 pm

I have to pick ONE favorite? I cover recycled glass jars with crochet lace to make pretty vases, and there’s a small herd of crochet coasters (aka cat toys, haha) to protect my tabletops — I haven’t started adorning my clothing yet; that’s why I hope I win this book! I’ve had my eye on it for so long, but a long unemployment means I can’t buy it for myself. I’m keeping my fingers & toes crossed!

93 Sarah L August 26, 2009 at 12:42 pm

This book looks amazing! Linda is one of my favorite designers; I adore her use of color. Would buy it for the stitch dictionary alone, if not for the super cute patterns!

94 Amelia August 26, 2009 at 12:49 pm

The book looks absolutely delicious. I’ve started “up-cycling” some old clothes and there are some really awesome ways to do it with crochet. I love, love, love that I can add a lace edging to anything I want. It’s an easy way to dress things up and make them a little girlier.

95 Helen August 26, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I’m fairly new crocheter, so I haven’t do a lot of embellishing, but I love to whip up quick beanie hats for my girls. They look adorable in them, but how much cuter will they be when I start adding flowers or butterflies?

96 sherri s. August 26, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Sweet memories of my grandma crocheting morning, noon and night (she made me and my cousins croched maxi skirts once–how cool were we!). I think crocheted edgings are just lovely and turn a boring Old Navy item into an Anthropolgie-esque garment! Thanks for the giveaway.

97 Yolanda August 26, 2009 at 1:43 pm

I love using crochet to “embelish” things from school…Rucksacks, pens and pencils, my daughter´s flute´s bag, her homework agenda and so on.

98 Wendy August 26, 2009 at 1:55 pm

I have been dying to make some crocheted pillows reminiscent of ones that my grandma had.

99 Kacy August 26, 2009 at 2:17 pm

I am currently into crocheting little flowers with cotten floss. I use these to adorn clothes for my 8 month old daughter. I would LOVE this book to get some new inspiration.

100 Selvi Adaikkalam August 26, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Flowers and Edgings!!!

101 Marti Majino August 26, 2009 at 2:50 pm

I love how crochet is sneaking into high fashion everywhere and this book shows us how to do it ourselves! Can’t wait to repurpose! Thanks for the give away! I love WHIP UP!

102 Holly August 26, 2009 at 2:52 pm

I am fairly new to crochet. I love how “vintage” this medium is. I recently found some crochet lace that I intend to use with some bright new fabrics to “quilt” a bright throw cushion. I have also been working on a wave throw blanket – but in very modern colours and made from a beautiful silk and cotton fiber.

103 Ariel August 26, 2009 at 2:58 pm

I think I wanna try the apron pattern. It looks so cute!

104 charrisse August 26, 2009 at 2:59 pm

I have crocheted flor bows for presents and trim on knit items. My next crochet project will be an edge for a table cloth!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

105 Valerie August 26, 2009 at 3:04 pm

I love crocheted scallop borders: they’re so easy, and yet so elegant. A scallop border will dress up a blanket and make it look polished, without too much effort.

106 gwensmom August 26, 2009 at 3:14 pm

I like crochet bags and purses. But i have yet to make myself one!

107 Kelly S. August 26, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Last winter I made a 6 scarves in different patterns and colors. My scarves have mysteriously made there way into my daughter’s closets. I would love to add edgings to my favorite shirts(my daughters wont’t “borrow” those)!

108 Marsha August 26, 2009 at 3:34 pm

I’ve used crochet only as edging on knitted garments. I’d love to see what other techniques I can learn from this book!

109 Lindsey August 26, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I would love to try out that technique for the shirt! It really seems like crochet necklines are very popular lately!

110 Abby August 26, 2009 at 5:20 pm

I love crocheting wool soakers for my son and adornments for my kniiting projects. This book looks wonderful!

111 Care J K August 26, 2009 at 6:08 pm

I love using crocheted flowers on all kinds of things: purses, jackets, even presents. I would love to have some new inspiration for adornment and Linda’s book looks amazing!

112 Katie F. August 26, 2009 at 6:30 pm

I am just learning to crochet- This looks like a wonderful resource.

113 Corey Googh August 26, 2009 at 6:31 pm

I am currently making the Babette blanket from Interweave. I’ve told my partner that the little crochet squares covering every space in most rooms of the house are part of my new interior design – I don’t think he believes me!

114 Anna August 26, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I love to crochet and really enjoy making pillows, blankets and doilies. I have started to make other things and would love to use flowers or edgings to decorate cardigans or simple househodl items such as pillows or aprons. This book looks like it has lots of lovely ideas!

115 Victoria M. August 26, 2009 at 7:03 pm

My favorite way to wear crochet right now is with crocheted necklaces. I found some old wooden beads and I finally figured out how to make a “ball” around them, for a cute, thick, funky long necklace. I just add a few together for color against a really simple shirt and cardigan. Always in style.

I bet with this book, I could totally deck myself out. (hint, hint, hint)

116 Nana August 26, 2009 at 8:39 pm

i love crochet edges around almost everything, but i’m not very good at making them, i guess, haha. and i love creating headpieces with crochet!

117 molly August 26, 2009 at 9:52 pm

i’m typically not a contest person, but i must really want this book – this is the second time i’ve entered a giveaway for it! i love crochet, and have recently been working on a hexagon tablecloth. it will take a long time, i’m sure, but i can’t wait to spread it on my table.

118 Monica6463 August 26, 2009 at 10:01 pm

I like to cut the neck and sleeves off thrifted t-shirts and then use that fabric as yarn and crochet a new neckline for the shirt. Easy and cool!

119 Lorrie August 26, 2009 at 10:46 pm

Crochet trims on table linens are so beautiful. And I love crocheted flowers worn as pins. I have some lacey crocheted doilies that I layer on trays to create a base for a vignette with things like plants, driftwood, stones and shells.

I love crocheted edges on shirts/tops. I also adore amigurumi – if i have time, i want to make some cute crochet christmas decorations.
