Here are three fabulous tutorials to help you out with finishing off your quilts. These tutorials – making double fold binding, attaching binding and finishing the binding are all related to using double fold binding with a mitered corner.

Shannon shows us how
we can turn worn but favourite clothing into something new – giving new life to old loved fabrics.
We all have tons of interesting materials at home that can be refashioned into something we want to wear and love again. Your favorite pair of jammies don’t need to be turned into cleaning rags or donated, why not use the much loved fabric to make something you are sure to wear … our creativity is a powerful thing that we can all use together to fight the effects of the economy and the environment.

Quilts, Baby!: 20 Cuddly Designs to Piece, Patch & Embroider by Linda Kopp. Lark Books (May 5, 2009).
A fun, quirky and energetic book of baby quilt designs, from quilt designers you know and love. These are non-traditional quilts, unique and bright and colourful, with folky applique and improvisational piecing. Many of these quilts tell a story, include interesting characters and textures all making for a wonderful playful addition to your babies room and a project to sew that will keep you interested along the way.
The quilting techniques section is pretty thorough, and the projects themselves are suitable for those with only minimal sewing skills and the addition of alternate designs give the maker inspiration to alter the quilt design to suit.
Malka Dubrawsky is one of my fave quilt designers and she has two designs in this book – a colourful circles and improv pieced quilt – and a squares and stripes quilt. I love her use of colour and pattern and improvisational cutting and piecing. Another of my fave quilt designers, Victoria Gertenbach, has an outer space inspired scrappy quilt, with lots of embroidered stitches and appliques circles. Erin Harris has a beautiful understated yet incredibly fun elephant quilt. Kajsa Wikman’s whimsical quilt has appliqued birds and trees amongst pieced lines and squares for a simple and stylish quilt. Carly Schwerdt’s interactive quilt is adorable, bundling up into a bag and opening up to find pockets hiding cute characters. With 20 patterns and lots more inspiration for creating your own style quilt, this little baby quilt book is an adorable addition to your library (or would make a great gift for an expecting mum).
