I asked all our participants to answer a few questions about their creative process:
1. When did you start making/crafting, and who or what inspired that first creative burst?
I’ve made things for as long as I can remember. Even as a kid I hooked rugs, drew, and stitched. I’ve always felt empowered by the idea that I could make something that would otherwise be purchased.
2. What would you say was that light-bulb moment when you discovered your ’style’ and really hit your making stride?
I really feel that is an ongoing process. I think I have more confidence now that if I want to craft something I can figure it out and bring my own personal style to it. I also know that the more I’m able to create the things I imagine, the more confidence I have and the more I’m likely to take risks.
3. Why do you make – what do you get out of it?
What don’t I get out of it? When I craft something I get to think creatively about a design problem, fashion something that’s aesthetically pleasing, and share that item or idea with others. That’s an amazing privilege.
