Christmas craft zine for kids + giveaway
Kids craft weekly has once again put out their annual christmas craft zine for kids – packed full of fun ideas for crafty things for little kids to make – this
downloadable pdf is 2 zines in one: [all the info here]
1. Christmas Cards: Fun and Simple Card Ideas for Kids
2. Christmas Craft: Inspirational Ideas for a Very Crafty Christmas
These printable mini books are perfect for little hands – the ideas are all aimed at pre-school age kids – but what I really love about this series and about kids craft weekly always is how unpretentious they are – the projects are all really achievable for this age group – with the photos showing finished products made by kids.
Amber is kindly offering 10 whipup readers a chance to win a copy of each of these books – so leave a comment here with your fave kids craft activity to be in the running – open for 48 hours. thanks winners will be contacted.

November 25th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
I love it when my kids make hot rocks (carefully heat up a large rock in your oven or elsewhere—be careful!) and then take them out of the oven and “paint” crayons on them…the wax simply gets warm and melts onto the rocks. A cheap cute way to add some color to our yard!
November 25th, 2009 at 6:58 pm
Our favourite activity is making cards. This year my child has decided collages are the thing to explore. We would be thrilled to win these books. I have found the KCW site to be a fabulous resource. Martha

I love the 5 minutes craft issue – my girls have gotten so much milage out of the pantry bean letter. We have done whole words, shapes – Halloween and Thanksgiving.
November 25th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
My mom and I always did crafts together while I was growing up. Christmas Crafts were my favorites. My mom is now watching my daughter while I work. This could be the kickoff of a new tradition between my mom and daughter!

An Australian colleague and friend recommended Kids Craft Weekly to me when we were working together in Indonesia. I’m home in the US now and I so much enjoy the weekly emails! Fun times for my princess and me!

I like stamping with my little one. She has fun and I don’t have to clean up too much after…
November 25th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
This time of year, we make angels. Many, many angels. Last year’s featured paper doily wings, this years have are just pretty paper cut and slotted together. My kids adore making them – and I think we have enough for a garland now… which may well fit around the entire house!
November 25th, 2009 at 7:22 pm
We love glue. Last week we made a turkey with tissue paper feathers. Fun!
November 25th, 2009 at 7:24 pm
We like to cut out snowflakes to decorate the windows for the winter. The kids can do it for hours, and they can tape them up in every window-it is decorative and festive!
November 25th, 2009 at 7:53 pm
We love painting with red/green on butcher paper and making it into wrapping paper! We use hands, feet, brushes, pine tree branches, you name it. It always turns out so cute and the kids just love it! :)
November 25th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
I’ve cut out pictures of stars, santa’s and reindeers and together with my 2 year old, we apply glitter and little stars and she has a ball. Very messy, but the smile on her face makes up for the mess!
November 25th, 2009 at 8:01 pm
My little one is only 17 months, so our crafty activities are pretty much limited to drawing and, occasionally, finger-painting (when I’m feeling game to deal with the mess). She’s just started to ‘get’ stickers, so we’ve started adding some to her drawings, which she seems to love.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
We love making candy canes reindeers to hang on the tree and give kiddie friends for Christmas…pipe cleaners for the antlers, googley eyes and a pom pom for the nose. too easy and so much fun :)

wow! how wonderful.
November 25th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
We love doing collages. First we get some oil pastels and draw a pic and then we paint over the whole page with watercolours and then we paste on something (a paper-pieced robot, a snowman, ducks, flowers, butterflies etc – whatever theme we’re working on) and finish it off with some glitter glue (I’ll often just mix some glitter with PVA and they use their fingers to put it on).
I also love when the do the ‘magic’ pics – a pic in white oil pastel that only can be seen once they have painted with the watercolours.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I like to fingerpaint with the kiddos. It’s something they can both do, ages 4 and 20 months.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:26 pm

November 25th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Tracing hands is pretty big in our house right now and you can make so many things with hand prints: reindeer, wreaths, turkeys, santas, trees.

My 5yo loves to paint. We have a new craft area with a new utility sink, and setting him up to paint has never been easier!! I’d love these books for him–if my name isn’t pulled, I plan to buy the craft book.
November 25th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
My kids love drawing Christmas pictures with oil pastels, the colours are amazing. I then scan their pictures and we turn them into our gift cards and tags for presents. They think it’s a hoot to have their own range of cards.

I keep lots of craft items on hand for us to come us with fun ideas. Right now, my daughter and I are making beautiful bookmarks by collecting colored leaves, drying and pressing them (in a large book), putting them on a piece of cardstock, adding a little spanish moss and glitter, and covering these with clear contact paper. We will be giving these away for Christmas this year!

I don’t know if it’s strictly craft but we love to make gingerbread and will do some with holes for tree decorations soon – as soon as we have a tree.
My kids are pretty little but a big hit is “playdough safari”. Rolling out playdough and walking all our plastic animals through it to see what footprints they leave.
They love to close their eyes and guess!

Yesterday discovered a great use for catalogues that come this time of year, make paper chains with them! Strips of the pages plus little strips of masking tape were easily handled by my 3 year old and we have lovely paper chains. It helps if you use catalogues with lovely pics as they then look really co ordinated, we used an upmarket kids clothing catalogue that was destined for the re-cycling bin.
