The Knitter’s Book of Wool: The Ultimate Guide to Understanding, Using, and Loving this Most Fabulous Fiber by Clara Parkes. Potter Craft (October 13, 2009).
Gorgeous, luscious, beautiful – warm, soft, natural – Yes I am talking about wool, sheep’s wool. With many books devoted to describing new and different yarns, this book takes us back to the good old sheep in all its different variations. The knitters book of wool describes and differentiates the various sheep breeds and their woolly characteristics, giving the reader a thorough understanding of all things wool. This lovely hardback book also includes classic knitting patterns (with charts + detailed directions) which makes this a perfect knitting fiends companion.

Elaine wrote in asking for a specific pattern – anyone able to help point her in the right direction?
I was wondering if you could give any insight as to where I might find the pattern for a knit headband that tapers and buttons in the back but also has a crochet flower on it. I have looked on Ravelry and Knitty.com but have not found the one I am looking for. I did find one for caliometry but it isn’t quite right.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not asking for it to be free, just the name of the book/magazine etc that the pattern might be in so that I can purchase it. A friend of mine wants to make one for her daughter and 6 nieces and has asked me to try to find it for her. I wouldn’t mind trying one myself.
Any possible help that you could provide would be very appreciated!
Thanks,
Elaine

Karma craft is a new custom fabric printer – that I have recently found out about – has anyone used them yet? love to hear what the quality is like…

The process is simple – and well explained - and they have a large (and promises to expand into hemp + wool soon) range of fabrics – they do custom orders for specialised fabric though if you are interested in purchasing over 20 yards – however the minimum order is only 1 yard. Their current range of fabric includes several graded/weights of cotton, including a cotton linen combo, cotton canvas and organic cotton, they also have linen, silk, and some polyesters. Prices are not cheap however with the cheapest cotton $25 per yard – this is due to the use of reactive dyes rather than textile pigments and the reactive dye process is MUCH more time consuming and the quality of colour is supposed to be much better.
They do print in China – even though they are registered in the US – and according to Scott the founder of Karma Craft – they have a nice facility which passes the REACH regulations for environmental safety.
For a broader look at print on demand fabric companies – check out Trueup’s article comparing a few different places – including Karma Craft and Spoonflower and a couple of others as well.
