Introducing more of the contributors, whose mini quilt patterns appear in Whip Up Mini Quilts, published by Chronicle books

I have introduced you to:Alexandra Rasmussen, Lisa Solomon, Kellie Wulfsohn, Alix McAlister, Ruth Singer and Kajsa Wikman.

Today I will introduce you to the Aussie gals Alison Brookbanks, Shannon Lamden, Kristine Lempriere, Nicole Vaughan and me! (Kellie Wulfsohn was introduced as a cover gal).

Alison Brookbanks was one of the first aussie bloggers I ‘met’ online when I first started up my own blog years ago. Alison’s designs are simple and beautiful – she loves details and textures.

Shannon Lamden, otherwise known as Auntie cookie, is an illustrator and fabric designer – her mad quirky designs are pretty fun.

Kristine Lempriere has her own children’s clothing business – beautiful seamstress – her quilts have also been featured in various quilting magazines.

Nicole Vaughan is craftapalooza, my other half here at Whipup. She has a silly sense of humour and great sense of colour and design – she is a fabric-aholic just like me!

And Me! Kathreen Ricketson – I started blogging here at Redcurrent years ago – but nowadays I am mostly at whipup – although I do occasionally stop in to Red Cordial Revolution to record my family creative adventures along with my little Bro.

Tomorrow US based makers Betz White, Sherri-Lynn Wood, Lisa Call, Boo Davis, Malka Dubrawsky, Victoria Gertenbach, Lizette Greco, Liz Harvatine, Jude Hill, Lucinda Jones, Alicia Paulson, Meg Spaeth and Sarah Steedman.

Introducing more of the contributors, whose mini quilt patterns appear in Whip Up Mini Quilts, published by Chronicle books

Yesterday I introduced you to the cover gals: Alexandra Rasmussen, Lisa Solomon, and Kellie Wulfsohn.

Today I want you to meet the three European based gals: Alix McAlister, Ruth Singer and Kajsa Wikman.

Alix McAlister, is a UK based collector and story teller, I love her folky magical aesthetic.

Ruth Singer is an author, stitcher and textile historian. She has an exquisite ability to manipulate fabric.

Kajsa Wikman is Finnish artist with a playful approach to making – her children are a major inspiration in her work.

More makers will be introduced to tomorrow: Australian based makers Alison Brookbanks, Shannon Lamden, Kristine Lempriere, Nicole Vaughan and me! And US based makers Betz White, Sherri-Lynn Wood, Lisa Call, Boo Davis, Malka Dubrawsky, Victoria Gertenbach, Lizette Greco, Liz Harvatine, Jude Hill, Lucinda Jones, Alicia Paulson, Meg Spaeth and Sarah Steedman.

Introducing the wonderful contributors, whose mini quilt patterns appear in my new book Whip Up Mini Quilts, published by Chronicle books

The contributors whose work appears in Whip Up Mini Quilts are makers, artists and quilters, from all the around the world, whose work I have admired via their blogs or from flickr. I have met none of these women in real life, but I feel I know them simply because their work speaks to me – I hope you love it too!

On the front cover appears the work of three makers they are: Alexandra Rasmussen – a German maker living in Japan, US based artist Lisa Solomon, and Australian quilter Kellie Wulfsohn.

Also inside you will find: UK based stitchers – Alix McAlister + Ruth Singer : Finnish artist Kajsa Wikman : Australian based makers Alison Brookbanks, Shannon Lamden, Kristine Lempriere, Nicole Vaughan and me! And US based makers Betz White, Sherri-Lynn Wood, Lisa Call, Boo Davis, Malka Dubrawsky, Victoria Gertenbach, Lizette Greco, Liz Harvatine, Jude Hill, Lucinda Jones, Alicia Paulson, Meg Spaeth and Sarah Steedman. I will be introducing you these women’s work over the next few weeks so stay tuned. But for today I want to introduce you to the cover gals!

Alexandra Rasmussen – who you might know better via the name moonstitches. Alex is not know as a quilter – however her crafting and stitching has such a lovely aesthetic. I fell in love with it way back in 2006 when she entered this bag in the whiplash competitions.

I have featured US based artist Lisa Solomon on whipup numerous times (felt tank installation and doily tree) her delicate work is very empowering.

You might know Australian quilter Kellie Wulfsohn from her amazing applique quilts – she was featured on whipup here. But I first saw Kellies quilts on the mini quilt swap flickr group. Kellie teaches quilting and applique classes and her quilts have been featured in numerous quilting magazines.

Sew Liberated: 20 Stylish Projects for the Modern Sewist by Meg McElwee. Interweave Press (January 1, 2010).

Meg from Sew Liberated (another old fave blog of mine), is a montessori teacher, and has an interesting viewpoint when it comes to making. She has a love of experimentation and pushing boundaries, trying out old techniques in new ways – and she has brought these ideas into her book. Sew liberated is primarily about applique, but not the perfectionist applique you might know from antique quilts. Instead she takes applique in directions that are perfect for the young and the modern sewist. Showing some quick and easy methods that you can apply to clothing, bed linen and accessories to brighten up your life.

In honour of my just released book Whip Up Mini Quilts, published by Chronicle books

I declare April to be Mini Quilt Month! Every day this month I will posting tutorials and features – all mini quilt related.

To kick start mini quilt month – I want to point to a whole bunch of free online tutorials to help you make your own mini quilt.

handmade by alissa – she made these placemats for a present – they are so cool – whipup featured a tutorial by weeks ringle a few years back [pt1 + pt2] on how to make something similar – but basically they are mini-quilts – love them.

Also try your hand at making this doll quilt – the tutorial is in a four parts at sew mama sew and this sew mama sew mini quilt uses an interesting method + Elizabeth’s advent calendar quilt was truly inspiring.

I really like this free-style mini quilt – lots of overlapping scraps and free-motion stitching.

Remember a few years ago we did whiplash challenges – Vintage ric rac made a tutorial for making her selvage mini quilt. And also as part of the mini quilt whiplash challenge Lady Harvatine’s confetti quilt tutorial (miss harvatine is also a contributor in the Whip Up Mini Quilt book).

I liked this embroidered alphabet quilt when we first featured in a while back. And this mini tree quilt from the Purl Bee last year had to have been my fave Christmas craft.

Mini quilts for dolls and doll houses are a must – here is a simple tutorial from crazy mom quilts. Here is a tutorial to use up leftover bits from a full size quilt to make a quick quilt for the dolls bed. And another very sweet dolls quilt using a pinwheel block. [see image above] And make sure you check out Amanda Jeans ticker tape quilt tutorial at sew mama sew. And at Moda Bake Shop another adorable doll quilt.
