Ribbon Art Book & Kit by Brenda Kee. Sterling Innovation (April 6, 2010).

Stitchable Stationery By Jenny Hart, Chronicle Books (May 6, 2009).

Fashion Origami by Eva Steele-Saccio. Klutz; Spi Pap/to edition (February 15, 2010).

Eerie Origami by Duy Nguyen. Sterling Innovation (September 1, 2009).

Don’t you just love craft kits? They make the best gifts, its so much fun to be able to open it up and get stuck straight into a project. These craft kits above are all great for kids – my daughter – aged 10 loves these – only the eerie origami is perhaps more suitable to older folks.

While kits sure are fun, they do have their limitations – often there is not enough materials provided to do all the project – just one or two, and the ribbon art does come under that category. However the other kits listed here were surprisingly full featured – the booklet that comes with them also useful beyond the life of the kit.

Today Klutz have kindly offered to give 2 whipup readers a copy of the the Fashion Origami kit – to enter just let me know who in your life would love this kit and why! You have 48 hours to enter. Thanks for entering – winners will be contacted.

Quilt It with Wool: Projects Stitched on Tartans, Tweeds & Other Toasty Fabrics by Nathalie Mornu. Lark Books; 1 Original edition (January 5, 2010).

Using wool is its many forms, combined with an open definition of quilting – this book will appeal to those interested in sewing, quilting and making with wool.

The designs are made by a range of contributors; designers with varied experience in textiles. This combination makes for an interesting range of projects, from a deliciously layered patchwork wool scarf, quilted with hand quilting stitches all over, to the fuzzy sweater pillow in a traditional tile design, the trio of felt birds, with their improvised cuteness and quilted fins, and the grey wool capelet, featuring circular applique and then machine quilted in a wavy echo design – giving it a defined shape and structure.

This is a really very nice book, with an excellent introduction to wool and the materials needed in the book as well as clear instructions and illustrations. Beginner and intermediate stitchers will find something to like in this book.
