I do feel a tiny teensy bit guilty about enjoying my kid free week so much last week. Its not that I achieved a lot in terms of work and deadlines (although I did catch up a bit), its more that I didn’t feel like I was ignoring the kids while working, and having time to relax, enjoy my morning coffee in peace, not having to deal with bedtime dramas – it all makes for a more relaxed me. So this week the kids are back (with a bang), and life has gone back to a more chaotic messy state of being. I don’t mind. But they did have a lovely time with their grandparents, were thoroughly spoiled – which is as it should be, ate lots of good food, spent time at the beach, visited with lots of cousins and aunties – all good holiday stuff.

While the kids were away we (hubby and I) managed to revamp Whip Up, give it a fresh look (there were a few dramas – but it is all sorted now – I hope!) and generally do some spring cleaning – always a good thing I think. I have been crafting too – and in the heat I have been crocheting, and doing up some tutorials for my monthly Aussie Woman’s Day Craft column.

At Whip Up:

If you heard about the flooding in Australia you might like to help out by entering one of the craft raffles – or donating direct to the flood relief. Or you might like to help crochet a rainbow.

The Whip Up Flickr group reached 1000 members this past week – to celebrate – ColourSoftness - Texture.

Weirdly yarn obsessed this past week: you might have seen my post on Cowl fever at whipup this week + colorwork hat + crochet laptop sleeve.

I also updated the Whip Up Tutorials Category - where you can find Whip Up’s original tutorials which have been buried in other categories and have been a bit hard to find up until now! Some recent tutorials include: Patchwork potholder and fabric fruit bowl and my Sleepy time baby with matching doll quilt … and more coming soon…

Do you have your 2011 calendar yet?

Consider the whipup calendar – full of excellent contributors and great crafty images, find out more here (only $5).

Reading this week:

I am reading Collected: Recipes by Kristin Hove (published by Hardie Grant), she has the most delicious and visual food blog. This book is a quirky collection of recipes collected from friends from around the world. I would have liked more background on the food and the people, but I am loving the recipes and images – it is a gorgeous book – and the food is quite a delight. A strange mix of tastes, flavours and textures. Beetroot Gazpacho, Cinnamon and Mango Jam, Pomegranate Cupcakes, and Sour Cream Porridge – Its all very exotic and interesting.

Things I am loving:

  • Needle felted toy tutorial
  • Easy-to-make, easy-to-store puppet theater
  • Hair clip holder
  • Fabric heart necklace
  • Burlap valentines
  • Crafty resources:

  • The next Fat Quarterly is all about solids.
  • Sadly Aunt Beas Fabric is closing down – they have marked all of their inventory down by 30% to 50% off.
  • Blog surfin’ inspiration

  • Chevron blanket inspiration
  • Button bookmark
  • Crochet hearts
  • Knitted cat hoodie pattern
  • Forever blanket at the Purl Bee
  • Leg warmers roundup

    Now make some stuff!
