I am toying with the idea of making a granny square sampler afghan [inspired by this and this and this and this] and have been researching square designs… I am finding the Crafty minx and Adaiha’s and Ruth’s Granny a Day Projects very inspiring and fun.

I’ve been pinning grannies for ages but haven’t got down to hooking any yet! Boo to me! But ‘a granny a day’ is a great idea – even I must be able to achieve that! Thanks for the inspiration and I love those flower squares.
I’m a little biased Kathreen, but when it comes to floral crochet motifs for afghans and blankets, my very favorite is the African Flower motif – it’s an hexagon, but truly gorgeous (I made a blanket here: http://www.fuoriborgo.com/fuoriborgo/2010/12/african-flower-blanket-hurray.html). I also really like the colorful Flower in the Snow square motif http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/flowers-in-the-snow – I made two scarves with it, and they came out lovely. Happy crocheting :)
Thank you for sharing this excellent round up- I’ve just gotten comfortable with standard grannies and have been dying to try some flowers…
Thanks for sharing the links! I love Adaiha’s granny a day, too! Barbara at Made in K Town is also working through Edie Eckman’s Beyond the Square and has some fun pictures there, too.
