Here is my current list of fave cowl patterns from around the web (not all the patterns listed are free patterns). After I reviewed the book Cowl Girls (or was it before?), I decided to whip up my own crochet cowl, (or is it a scarf?) and became more than slightly obsessed with all things cowl. Especially since Australia’s summer this year has been less than summery.

What is a cowl exactly anyway? … Loose hood – protective covering :: hood-shaped covering :: loose gown with hanging sleeves and a hood :: A soft draping of fabric, cut so that the fabric can hang in soft folds :: a neckline in which fabric is attached and drapes in soft folds. So as you can see its a pretty open interpretation – which is why there are so many wonderful variations – fun to design, interesting to make, and versatile to wear – what could be better – so hear goes my list… {and just reviewing my list – seems I am particularly attracted to earthy natural tones and bold textures at the moment – love to hear if you have any fave cowl patterns…}
