“Can I play too?”
My name is Weeks Ringle and I am one of the co-owners of FunQuilts. We
design and make contemporary quilts, write books on quiltmaking, design
fabric for FreeSpirit and teach design to quiltmakers.
I live with my husband Bill, our daughter Sophie and two affectionate
cats in Oak Park IL, USA. Our family motto is “Love, Learn, Serve.” We
do as much of those things every day as we can manage.
I have no business writing on Whipup as I have too many other
responsibilities in life as a full-time mom and FunQuilter but I can’t
help myself. I have always been drawn to do-ers and makers and I simply
can’t stay away. Finding out that Kim of Dioramarama had started the
Modern Quilt Along based on our second book was one of the highlights
of the year for me. I will be sharing personal sewing projects, insight
into how we design our quilts and fabric lines and general topics
related to creativity and quiltmaking.
Bill and I started FunQuilts so we could blend our design educations,
work together and not lose track of the fact that life is short and
that we want to spend our days together. In 2002 we adopted our
daughter Sophie from China. Many of the projects I will share come from
things Sophie, Bill and I make together.
What’s important:
Time with my family and friends
Helping people who are trying hard
Making a nice dinner
Getting enough sleep
Tending the garden (both literal and metaphorical)
Not trying to be someone I’m not
Doing work that’s really fun
Surrounding myself with creative things, places and creative people
(that’s you by the way) so I remain creative
Making a little something every day
Remembering Sheryl Crow’s advice “It’s not getting what you want, it’s
wanting what you’ve got.”
