The focus is arts/crafts, summer related, for kids (or kids at heart!). so check it out..

hi--my "new" project is one I have resurrected from 1981! I saved the appliqued quilt squares I made in 1981--the beginnings of a baby quilt for my 2nd daughter---which was waylaid by "second-baby-syndrome" and never finished. Now, I'm finally finishing this quilt for my first grand baby ;-) http://foxyartstudio.blogspot.com/
this is a fun quilt called "bear over the mountain" all in now vintage 1980's calico fabrics

When my summer garden is bursting with flowers I can't help but gather up blooms in a big basket and start stringing them into leis and headbands. I have a lei needle purchased on Oahu when I was a teenager and it has been in use ever since. In my Pacific Northwest garden, of the US, dahlias are the flower of choice for leis that dry to pretty shades and keep some bulk to them. Aloha!

Hi, this is Jackie. I've been making little chunky charms out of earring loops, charms and beaded wire. Here's the post:

Hi: I think that there are more craft, yarn, hobby stores than I remember when I was younger (I'm very old) and all the new craft materials, the yarn is to die for now, and so many kits of various crafts, makes you want to do crafts, try different things. I'm glad, & I raised my 12 kids with crafting all the time, each had something they liked to do. Judie

There is a definite revival of DIY in our culture. It's interesting a question as to how this all started. My belief is that it parallels the last revivial of DIY spirit in the 1970s.
At that time as well as today people felt disconnected, isolated, and desperate. People struggle to be heard especially in relationship to war and a repressive government. Art making of any kind is therapuetic and it restores our sense of empowerment. The DIY movement has been sparked by several different, maybe complimentary reasons:
the need for individuals to have an outlet.
the need to form community.
the need to access ones independence as a reflection of the ill equipped nature of the state.
the need to invest in the self.
the need for revolution.
the need for economic independence.
The nature of the DIY movement is thus to satisfy the retaliatory nature that arises when one feels repressed, isolated, and lacking the independence that every individual has a right to.
