Dorm Decor: Remake Your Space with More Than 35 Projectsby Theresa Gonzalez and Nicole Smith. Chronicle Books; Spi edition (March 25, 2009).

A refreshing take on decorating in small spaces – very small spaces where big changes are not possible. The college dorm room is the focus, however these decorating tips and patterns would be perfect for rental accommodation or share housing anywhere and also just around your own home.

This book has some really cute and practical patterns and instructions for the bedroom (appliqued curtains, lampshades, monogrammed pillows, eye cover for sleeping off the nights activities, no pet policy pillow is cute – with a photo fabric print of your puppy), the closet (hanging organiser made of felt, a cute jewelry storage chandelier made from chicken wire, cosmetics carryall and the deer head hat stand), study space (message board, chair cushion, block of flats bookends made painted fabric and stuffed with beans or rice), living space (love the giant floor cushion, and the faux zebra skin floor mat, and the argyle fleece throw is also lovely) and for yourself (fleece robe, house slippers and toiletry tote).

All these projects are simple, adorable and practical – perfect for the dorms or a teen retreat – but many projects I think would perfectly suit my house as well.

To give you a taste of what this book has to offer there are a couple of these projects available online: Oh Dear, Deer Head and the argyle fleece throw [see pics above].

love these drawer style hooks with their mismatched vintage knobs.
