whipup roundup [mid november]

whipup roundup

Am a little late with this weeks newsletter – but a quiet sunday morning is the perfect chance to catch up with whats been happening this week. It seems I am ridiculously busy with too many projects on the go at once + my boy has been begging for a new quilt, so somehow that has become top priority – we had some fabric printed with his drawings a while ago so I think this is the perfect project to use it for – will post results when done. Yesterday I spent a lovely afternoon sewing next to my daughter – she made a soft felt block of chocolate and I made an afternoon quilt (well half made anyway), then we sat down to read some harry potter and do some crochet.

In other quilt news I am organising a 65 roses quilt for charity – find out how you can participate here.

whipup roundup [wk 1 november]

whipup roundup

Am writing this post all garlicky from making aioli (it didn’t work out but am going to try just one more time – it looks ridiculously simple but there is a trick to it I have yet to figure out). Have also been working on a quilt this week (another project that is causing me grief), but in good news I made some delicious butterfly cream cakes (check out the recipe over here) and have made 2 pavlovas this week – oh such gorgeous summery fare (we like ours topped with cream, raspberries and passionfruit).

whipup roundup {oct wk3}

whipup roundup

Dear fellow quilters/crafters
Your quilting story could be featured in an upcoming quilt book I am researching (not due for release until 2011). The book will touch on community and quilting and I would love to hear from you. Find out more here.

Last night was the culmination of some fun projects I have been working on (if you look closely you can see I had a lovely little helper do some sewing for me) – these sweets and tea-set were in a group show last night along with a couple of other works of mine and lots of great stuff by some other very talented artists. It was a fun night (there was red wine spillage), toffee apples, and good friends.

whipup roundup [oct wk 3]

whipup roundup

The first week back to school after mid year 3 week break + and daylight savings starting + kids addicted to late night reading = very difficult to get organised and get going to school in the mornings. However I am still determined to feed them a cooked breakfast before packing them off in the mornings – they are often so busy at school that they forget to eat! So quick midweek cooked breakfasts at our house often include eggs – scrambled or fried, french toast in an easy favourite and if I get up early enough I sometimes put on some breakfast muffins – totally delicious and easy to make recipe at red cordial revolution.

Sorry for the tardy roundup this week – we have been migrating our server to give it a little more space and it took a wee bit longer than anticipated (and we are still testing). Also I have been collating and with the help of a few others choosing the participants for the 2010 whipup.net calendar – see the results here. Even with all that – whipup has still been super busy … and Happy thanksgiving to Canadians.

whipup roundup {end of August}

Last week of August and it has been quite a busy crafting month for me – my craft room is finished – but photos will have to wait till next week. I have been crafting crazily – and making felt cookies and soft cake plates for an exhibition coming up soon. Photos of that soon too. I was at the Sydney Stitches & Craft fair last weekend with my friend Kate and her baby, and we had a lovely time meeting all the cool chicks on the top floor. We heard Jodie from Ric Rac talking about blogging, and met up with Justine from Mixtape zine, Nichola from Burda style and wardrobe refashion, Nanette from Rummage (who we realised that we know in real life – what a surprise that was), and Dear Fii. I bought some lovely goodies from Ink & Spindle, from pippi joe, from Kristen Doran, cloth (and watched a lovely demo of their design process), prints charming, some lovely goodies from Amitie, I also bought one of Nicole’s delicious Apples and a tutti frutti bunting.

This week on whipup some fabulousness – I love the cowboy boots and these were my fave handmade project for the week – so amazing. Book reviews – for designers – Artistic printingcrochet adorned - best crochet book I have seen in a while … and a spinning dvd review … and my favourite crazy nerdy thing this week in the stitch wars show - with all things star wars.

whipup roundup {August wk 2}

Thank you all for tuning in again this week. Looks like my craft room project has been put back another week as Rob is taking the kids away for the weekend. Not that I mind – a weekend to myself is quite a luxury! However I do have a little bit of exciting news – I have a book coming out early next year with Chronicle. Its a quilt book with some wonderful contributors – it has been rather a long process and a huge learning curve for me. The whole book publishing world is incredible. More about the book soon – but just for you special people who read this newsletter – a sneak peek.

whipup roundup {August wk 1}

When I first started writing this weekly newsletter a few months ago, I wasn’t sure if anyone would subscribe, so imagine my delight when I reached 1000 subscribers within a few weeks. And now just recently I have reached over 3000 subscribers – so I am really super excited and want to thank you all for reading, for subscribing and for telling your friends. I recently received a couple of thank you letters and wanted to share a snippet with you all: Sharon wrote “I receive your newsletter in my email … thanks for doing the newsletter. It’s probably a lot of work, I personally am excited every time I open it and I’ve found lots of interesting things there” and from Fabiola “I just wanted to say how much I look forward and enjoy reading your newsletter. It’s truly inspirational, and has such a wide variety of different things to look at and think about. … You make my Saturday morning an inspirational one :)” Thank you all for inspiring me – lots coming up in this newsletter – last week I promised pics of my finished craft room – no luck unfortunately – it is bare awaiting the plasterer and painter – maybe next week? In the meantime …

My fave projects for the week – I love the patchwork cubes - oh so darling : and this colourful woven candy sachet - totally cool and fun : and the hot frog – with tutorial and pattern.

We reviewed some books this week: a novel – a little unusual for us as whipup – but since it all about obsessions and hobbies I think you will love it - the enthusiast and a sweet quilt book – quilts, baby!

quilting and sewing inspiration: freezer paper piecing : envelope purse : find out about designing and making softies.

Around the home: I am totally into these tiny toolboxes - you gotta make one : herb dryer : a drying rack – what a great idea.

Paper: I love the sweetness of this doily garland : origami koi : great idea for thank you notes.

knitting + crochet: love the multiple use knit wrap : and the knitted baby cosy : these crochet baskets are simple : and the crochet baby hat is very cute : but for something a little different the mama and baby monsters – knit pattern – adorable : and this felted tote is lovely too – so much to do so little time.
