Wow what a week its been at Whipup since our last whipup wrapup. So much stuff is going on out there in the crafting world. It has been a week of printing at whipup, we have featured tutorials on block printing, rolling pin printing and kids printing ideas.

My favourite patterns that we have featured this week include safety cones - love heart pillow, and how cool is the new cheater print from Denyse Schmidt? Something for the birds with the very cool mid-century bird house – if you missed seeing that then go there now.

Other cool stuff this week includes the popup politics downloadable pdf (but don’t forget, as the commenter on this post reminds us, there are other candidates too). Also there are some cool art/craft things happening with the Alice Springs (Australia) Beanie festival and don’t forget to check out these cool books: Over and over for the print and pattern lovers and The new crewel – for the handwork and embroidery lovers.
Once again thank you to our regular contributor Nicole at Craftapalooza, and welcome to threadbanger who we are in awe of. Also thanks to those who have sent in their contributions – don’t forget our theme for this month is knitting.
On a personal front, our renovations continue unabated with workmen arriving with noisy machinery at 7am, we are now camping in two rooms with our stuff in boxes or covered with drop-sheets all over the place.
Whipup has been jumping and pumping with lots of fantastic tutorials and ideas. Thanks to Nicole from craftapalooza, she scours the net looking for cool ideas. Some of my faves include the fabric dolls house and a soft barn tutorial. Also Jenna from Corgi pants has offered whipup readers a free ‘chicken scratch‘ pattern and has a few others at her website too.
Meanwhile I have been busy researching yarn clubs and craft subscriptions – a good intro to next months theme of knitting – where I hope to bring you lots of fun ideas, new concepts and traditional designs as well as looking more at community and knitting.
Contributors Ramona and Samantha sent in this tutorial on making tin can magnets – it looks really fun so don’t forget that we are currently accepting articles and tutorials for September – our theme is knitting and articles can be about experiments with knitting (would love stories on the success and the failures) as well as experiences on knitting in public, knitting clubs, patterns and more. Read our guidelines for more info. This months theme was family crafts and I loved doing this theme – it is really close to my heart – I am always on the look out for crafts to do WITH my kids and as a whole family – so I am going to be incorporating more of this at whipup in the future – if you missed the newspaper tent – go back and check it out and definetely spend some time at a boys life.
I also want to send a thank you out to Lisa Lam who interviewed me recently on Craft :: boom and to say thank you to Lindsey at Threadbanger – am really excited about our new collaboration. On a personal note – I have been busy with a house renovation which is making my life crazy and spend every week checking out all the fantastic self portraits at spc – this months theme is ‘Shine’.
Another topic close to my heart is eco crafting – so we will be taking party in blog action day on October 15. But before then we are hosting carnival of green crafts on 4 September – which has been at crafting a green world (also the organiser of this event) and before that it was at blog her. Please send in your submissions via the carnival submission form here.
